Converting Points and Rewards system for osC BS
burt replied to Tsimi's topic in Add-Ons Development
Sure thing - let me know if you want this part of the conversation moved into its own thread; Could you give an example of what was the problem in that page, or what you were trying to display in the page? That page at first glance is a bit weird - but it is modular. So you can add a "normal" module to it in the same sense as what can be done on the product page. The only difference is that the output of an account module is just a list item (rather than something "bigger")... Here is an example of such; function execute() { global $oscTemplate, $currencies; $store_credit = new store_credit(); if ($store_credit->display_balance() > 0) { $oscTemplate->_data['account']['tags']['title'] = MODULE_CONTENT_ACCOUNT_CREDIT_BALANCE_PUBLIC_HEADING; $oscTemplate->_data['account']['tags']['links']['tag'] = array('title' => sprintf(MODULE_CONTENT_ACCOUNT_CREDIT_BALANCE_PUBLIC_TITLE, $currencies->format($store_credit->display_balance())), 'link' => NULL, 'icon' => MODULE_CONTENT_ACCOUNT_CREDIT_BALANCE_PUBLIC_ICON); } } -
Converting Points and Rewards system for osC BS

When you guys were working on this (thanks and well done)...did you come across anything in the Core Code where a "change of code" would have made things easier for you?? Please let me know by PM or by a new thread or on this thread - whatever is easiest. -
@ArtcoInc Jack has coded in row list-group at <div class="row list-group" itemtype="http://schema.org/ItemList"> so that should be enough to invoke the inbuilt .css solution (edge)...and it should equalise the output... If a "group" of boxes is inside a "row list-group", they should be good.

You can't use 3 years old blog post exactly...codebase has changed so much since then...and the index page is now modular...so your specials thing needs to be a module. Take the idea of that blog post, but not the code. You need to make a module. A module consists of (usually) three files; the module itself the modules template file the modules language file So, take the new products module as a base...and by trial and error learn some code from it. It's important that all shopowners know enough code to be dangerous... /includes/modules/content/index/cm_i_new_products.php /includes/modules/content/index/templates/new_products.php /includes/languages/english/modules/content/index/cm_i_new_products.php You need to copy each. Rename each. Open each, change each appropriately. Save, upload, install. Forget.

@ArtcoInc products_head_keywords_tag is in jack_mcs seo addon. You can use products_seo_keywords instead. I'm surprised that anyone would put out an addon which has artifacts left over from a different (and incompatible) addon, incredibly short sighted and problematic.

No input, just wanted to say "good work chaps". Nice to see some teamwork going on. -
I think I tried implementing similar in the product description, but gave that up as it was returning many unrelated results. I recall doing something along those lines anyway and it turned out crap.

You are correct.

UK shipping module needed for 2.3.4 BS and works on PHP7
burt replied to Enzo_UK's topic in Shipping Modules
I've made wayyyy too much stuff in the past 17 years. It all merges into one big code, like the Matrix. -
@mmotala10 please see this image which might help to understand the layout. Overall is 12 wide made of 2 - 8 - 2 Each of those three columns can be further split in 12s. Thus by setting the content width to "12", you are setting it to full width of the 8 wide column. Note that as you reduce the screen size, all three of these 2 - 8 -2 columns become 12 wide; 12 - 12 - 12 and drop below each other - so in small screens the slider would indeed be full width already. As @kymation points out, the header and footer is usually always 12 wide, so to get a full width item in there...upload the slider module into the header content or footer content system and turn it on... Please excuse my elite photoshop skills.

UK shipping module needed for 2.3.4 BS and works on PHP7
burt replied to Enzo_UK's topic in Shipping Modules
Yeah, that would be a part of it - to get the first part of the postcode. Thanks for finding that, had forgotten about it. On top would need an admin area (for linking postcodes and prices) and a shipping module for lookup of X postcode to Y price. -

It's something I released a while back, it is not in the addons area as I don't do freebie addons. And I can't even find it on my own blog. If I can find the code, I'll update. If someone can point you to something else in the meantime, that would be cool. -

Make a localhost version of your site, using something such as xampp, uniform server or similar such software. This will save you a lot of hassle. I know there is at least one up-to-date UK postcode module that is close to your needs and could be changed appropriately to better reflect your exact needs. If you cannot find it, another option is to get something coded; https://www.oscommerce.com/forums/forum/79-commercial-support-inquiries/ Off the peg and suited to your exact needs ... probably does not exist. -
Address formats are stored in the database table: address_format You now need to determine how a swedish address is set out...and insert a new format into the table. I cannot remember if there is a page in admin to allow you to do that, so might need to be done direct on the database using (eg) phpmyadmin.

@GlenPig a blog post from 8 years ago is not suitable for the code we have now. I recall making a header_tag module which I think I released a couple of years ago maybe in a summer blowout sale. So it rather depends on if you want to pay for it (in which case I'll find it a re-release it) or not. There is no need to change any code at all to get IP address per order. HT module on checkout_success. Admin side: easiest to change core code, but could potentially be done with a Hook.

USPS Shipping Module Not Returning Domestic Rates
burt replied to kennyk's topic in Shipping Modules
This also happened approx two weeks ago. Within a couple of hours all was well again, so I suspect their servers are having glitches. -
My ethos is; Make it very simple for the customer to do things. As far as a checkout goes, what can be more simple than; login > choose shipping > choose payment > review order > complete It has been proven many times that a bite-size of cake, followed by a bite-size of cake...is far better than ramming a whole cake down ones throat. What I would like to see [in CORE]...which is sort of related... On shopping_cart.php a summary (estimated) shipping price, (estimated) taxes and so on. So they see their grand total prior to starting a checkout.

#6. no bug has been reported as far as I am aware. Please report it at https://github.com/gburton/Responsive-osCommerce/issues v5 of the Paypal App appears to work fine on my installation of Edge.

Hook it is then. It's a good use of Hooking. Bear in mind that in the English language, getting it 100% correct is difficult; McDonald MacDonald Macdonald Mcdonald All are valid surnames. In addition "Macdonald" can also be a given (first) name!

It's gotta be possible to do it. I haven't not thought about it other than my thoughts above.

Difficult one. My feeling is that whatever the customer inputs is correct and should be respected.

Frank, this time; I clicked the button on your site, it did not take me to Google this time (or it might have been so instantaneous I did not notice. I ended up on ezsocial_success where is says; We need your delivery details. Please fill in the required fields I filled out the rest of it. It did not ask me for a password (obviously by design I think!). I then logged off. I then logged back in by clicking the google button - I was insta-logged in with all my previously entered address showing. TL;DR SUPER COOL!

I dont have FB or LInkedIn, but I do have a Google account...I tried and it sent me off to Google where it asked me to click my name. I clicked this and it thought about things for a moment then sent me back to your test shop with the following message; Data incomplete - social login aborted. Please choose another login method. I believe that this is maybe because my profile contains pretty much only my name and email address... Perhaps you need more data than this for the login to complete?

ps playing with the Fuzzy Factor probably will help a bit but not massively so. All it does is change the %aaaa% bit below from 4 characters to whatever you choose: and pd.products_metaphone like '%MRNF%' order by The higher the number, the less likely to match in the metaphone string. This Fuzzy system is potentially one of the game changer addons, but it's something that is a bit of a blunt instrument (ie, helps a massive amount for an off the shelf piece of code that takes 1 minute to set up, but is not bespoke enough to be 100% perfect at all times).
