Actually, a buddy just suggested what i think might be a better idea. An embedded link could be sent to each vendor and the parameters on the querystring could be used for the update information. i can see some possible problems with this approach though. Some unscrupulous or (careless) vendor could change (accidental or on purpose) the querystring parameters and mess things up pretty bad, for example updating the wrong info. however, this might be not such a big deal, since the update would likely fail if the paramaters did not match a record in the database. also, updates could only be allowed from "pending" to "shipped" and not the reverse. also, you would want to log the ip address of the person making the request on the update url. so which sounds better ? - a perl script that runs on a schedule and updates shipment status - a embeded url that the vendor is sent via email and clicks on which executes using the querystring parameters for its data to do the update personally, im leaning toward an embeded url approach since it can be done with php (consistent with OSC) and results in more immediate updates.

blucollarguy - im starting to experiment with rigging a perl script that will parse a mailbox for email replies from vendors, to allow OSC to update the status of orders involving multiple vendors. since im a newbie to perl, thsi will be a crash course in perl for me to. this way, a store owner can just simply view a single page and at a glance see which orders have had each vendor complete shipping. in short, i think (as we talked about earlier) this might be the best way to handle keeping track of order status with regards to MVS, as opposed to requesting the vendors to update a page on the website. Of course the orders page will need to be modified or an alternate version built. It should show each vendor name(shortened maybe) and their status as regards the order.

im in the same situation. one way i thought about handling it would be to provide a vendor login page and let the vendors update their status. then on a seperate page for the store owner, the orders can be listed along with the seperate vendor shipment status. also, on each row a hyperlink can popup a window with any special notes from each of the vendors. ideas/comments welcome
  7. yes, that was what i was considering (having the vendor mark his order items as shipped). this could be done via one page, somewhere in the admin section, with each vendor using their login that you assign to get access to their order listings. a checkbox could let them indicate that they have shipped out. a place for a tracking number could also be provided. just some thoughts. im glad to know you are also working with vendors for drop shipping, as well as those who only work via phone/fax because i anticipate having to do the same. at least i know soemone now that i can bounce ideas off of ;) in hindsight, i think getting things fully automated with multiple vendors, esp if they all have different arrangements with me might be overkill, at least in my situation. when i launch my site, i hope for but dont expect sales to be heavy, but even at some point it could get hard to process. maybe not though, i think i could handle it by processing my orders at the end of the day or orders from the previous day at the very beggining of the following day. I think i can handle making phone calls to place my orders, esp since most of my supplers will be local or within neighboring counties. isnt it reasonable to expect to be able to process about 20-50 orders manually, per day ? by manually, i mean going through the list and placing orders with the vendors, then marking the items shipped in Admin > Customers > orders ? How do you currently keep track of what stage that your orders are in ? In otherwords, after you have placed your order with a vendor, do you update the order in the Admin area to "delivered" or something else ? lots to think about for me

A question about customer orders related to MVS, how is a store owner supposed to know when a vendor has shipped their items. In Admin > customers > orders > edit there is a place to mark an order as pending, processed or delivered how is a store own supposed to keep track of which orders have been shipped (completely) esp when dealing with orders taht are going out from more than one vendor ? this also leads me to another question, ill post in the general area thanks

so as it stands right now, this contrib will let me define vendors/suppliers for each product and when an order is placed that involves multiple vendors, they will each get an email concerning the items from the order that they supply ? do i have that correct and where do we stand on the level of completion ? where can i help ? im fairly adept with php coding. i need this feature before i open my store

ive determined that this contribution is absolutely needed for my line of business.
  11. Anyone know of or currently working on something similar ? I plan on using several suppliers, but not more than 10 or so and am currently looking at the contribution "Enhanced Multi Vendor Shipping" that will allow me to send an order email to each of the suppliers in the order. I also need a way to verify that the items have shipped. One way to do this might be to provide each supplier with a login that would let them view their orders and mark them as shipped and/or leave comments. comments/sugestions ?
