John "Mibble" Oligario, i c...are there any pitfalls to using the auto-return in paypal, instead of the IPN contrib? Regards, T-DOGG
-
I need to be the devil's advocate: From what I have seen, most people install this contrib b/c OSC is not logging the order unless the buyer clicks on the "continue" or "return to merchant" button (which ever your particular paypal displays)...correct? (I could be wrong right out of the gate) Riddle me this: I turned ON my "Auto Return for Website Payments" option, found in the Merchant's PayPal configuration: Profile->Website Payment Preferences Then I updated the "Return URL:" to This worked like a charm without using this PayPal IPN contrib. The correct variables got passed, or whatever happens, because when it auto-redirected back to the checkout_success page, it still prompted the buyer to tick on the items that they bought if they wanted to receive updates...the purchase email was sent to the buyer...all paypal updates/emails occurred. All seems well in the world. WHAT AM I MISSING HERE? SEEMS TOO EASY! "TALK TO ME GOOSE" thanks in advance! Regards, T-DOGG

Just curious...does anyone know of any other OFFICIAL OSC "patch" contributions, such as this one? trying not to learn about them the hard way, as i did this one. :'( thanks in advance T-DOGG

THANKS!!!!!!!! Does IPN still need to be turned ON in the PayPal profile (and make the URL field blank)? Also, can anyone confirm or deny if we can test this with my test osc on LOCALHOST? Thanks again! Regards, T-DOGG

HOLY SCHNIKIES!!! Please don't make me read any more!!! Would someone pretty please tell me what URL PayPal wants in the IPN configuration to send its IPN "message" to? More specifically, here is what PayPal is asking for: "...and enter the URL at which you will receive the payment notifications below." AND, would someone also tell me why this is not in the 'Install Guide' for this contrib? Signed, frustrated (or blind)...help!

McGrath's Attributes Sorter Copier Install
tdogg replied to websissy's topic in General Add-Ons Support
anyone found the line of code to fix the above issue....I have it too!!! there seems to be a space missing in the sql: products_options_values_to_products_optionspovt should be: products_options_values_to_products_options povt Regards, Siddall -
This may help but it is kind of a general observation too! I could not get the txt file to generate IF the feeder directory, or whatever you use to temp'y hold the file before FTP, was located in a PASSWORD PROTECTED DIRECTORY....like my admin directory (or whatever you change the name of it to). Try a different directory... hth! Regards, Siddall

Updated spiders.txt Official Support Topic
tdogg replied to stevel's topic in General Add-Ons Support
STEVE, you appear to be correct according to the log file (have an excerpt of it below for your review)...the "Inktomi" spider is related to (or the same as) the Yahoo! Slurp stuff (that's a technical term) that you mentioned. [i may be easier to cut n paste the excerpt below into something that doesn't word-wrap] HOWEVER, the log excerpt below (which is Inktomi/Slurp specific) shows that when it crawls, it uses a different IP with almost EVERY link it crawls. I'll get 10-20 different IP hits (Inktomi-specific) within' an hour...a few times a day. Sidenote: it doesn't seem to be creating near as many sessions as it used to...but there are a few (search on osCsid). I don't know if anything can be done about this, but I thought it was worth noting, just in case there is something that I am missing or not understanding. 68.142.251.148 - - [09/Jul/2005:00:05:11 -0500] "GET /robots.txt HTTP/1.0" 200 806 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; Yahoo! If I include the infobox that causes the issue, the sitemap looks like this: * Information o Shipping & Returns o Privacy Notice o Conditions of Use o Contact Us o Site Map * Custom o CREATE YOUR OWN o The "INFORMATION" infobox looks great...but under it is the "CUSTOM" infobox. It lists the "CREATE YOUR OWN" link and then a blank link under it...just a random bullet point. Here is the code for that infobox from ...includes/boxes/ <?php /* $Id: custom.php,v 1.6 2003/02/10 22:31:00 hpdl Exp $ osCommerce, Open Source E-Commerce Solutions http://www.oscommerce.com Copyright (c) 2003 osCommerce Released under the GNU General Public License */ ?> <!-- custom //--> <tr> <td> <?php $info_box_contents = array(); $info_box_contents[] = array('text' => BOX_HEADING_CUSTOM); new infoBoxHeading($info_box_contents, false, false); $info_box_contents = array(); $info_box_contents[] = array('text' => '<a href="' . tep_href_link(FILENAME_CUSTOM) . '"><b>' . BOX_INFORMATION_CUSTOM . '</b></a><br>'); //'<a href="' . tep_href_link(FILENAME_CUSTOM_RULES) . '"><right><small>' . BOX_RULES_CUSTOM . '</small></right></a>'); new infoBox($info_box_contents); ?> </td> </tr> <!-- custom_eof //--> I really don't see anything shockingly different...it is basically a ripe of .../includes/boxes/information.php. Let me know what you think!!! Regards, Siddall

Jack, The right column has my product categories and looks great! The left column looks like this: *Account *Account_edit *Account_history *Account_history_info *Account_newsletters *Account_notifications *Account_password *Address_book *Address_book_process *Advanced_search *Checkout_confirmation *Checkout_payment *Checkout_payment_address *Checkout_shipping *Checkout_shipping_address *Checkout_success *Conditions *Contact_us *Contest *Contest_rules *Cookie_usage *Create_account *Custom *Custom_rules *Index *Info_shopping_cart *Login *Logoff *Password_forgotten *Privacy *Product_reviews *Products_new *Product_reviews_info *Product_reviews_write *Reviews *Shipping *Shopping_cart *Specials *Ssl_check *Tell_a_friend *Dynamic_sitemap *Information o Shipping & Returns o Privacy Notice o Conditions of Use o Contact Us o Site Map Is that list of filenames with the underscores correct? The information infobox at the end looks good...and appears to use the filenames form filenames.php. Whereas, the long list is not. Do you have any advice? I also have an infobox that is basically a ripe from "Contact Us" and it choked on it...I had to exclude it. Even odder, I have a third infobox that is a ripe from "Contact Us" and almost identical to the one that chokes but it worked fine. That issue is melting my brain! Thanks in advance! Siddall

Jack, I am still learning about SEO and the whole spider/robot methodology, so forgive my ignorance. Since this sitemap is "dynamic" will it still have the positive SEO effects of a static sitemap? Will spiders still hit the sitemap and use it to hit all other links? Thanks in advance! Regards, Siddall

Jack, Couldn't help but noticing that this contrib was your baby for most of the updates, according to the owners on the osc contribution site...and you seem to be doing most of the support on this thread. This is not a slam to the others who have updated the contrib but have you reviewed the updates made to the contrib after your last upload? At what level or version of this contrib do you run yourself/support? Thanks in advance! Regards, Siddall
