Time for a Bottom Up Rebuild?

I have said for a very long time that the core of oscommerce needs to be fit for today's market. It has to offer the features that are needed in today's harsh selling environment. It has to do everything well. Recently I have been looking for other software as a replacement module for the old Stripe payments was not available and was in the hands of Harald, so was never going to done. There are lots of carts out there, some more popular than others, but all offer standard features not available to oscommerce which are needed to run an ecommerce store and generate sales. This has been known but ignored by those in charge for years, and another thread moaning about what should or should not be included will not have any effect. There is a lot of grounds to be made up and without someone to lead a marketing push, which should generate interest from new developers and new users, then I am afraid that the project will just fizzle out. There is nothing stopping people creating modules and submitting them to be considered to be put into core, but they have to be coded first to show what they can do and they have to work. Its wrong to expect one person to do it all as much as its wrong for one person to want to do it all.

You are right there. There are loads of members very few of which are helpers so it could have been, and should have been kept in the open public forum.

Time for a Bottom Up Rebuild?

That's what the Phoenix club is used for although not everyone can join. A lot of ideas have come from discussions there.
  4. @BrockleyJohn What ever you did has sorted it. @burt thanks for releasing the fix so quick. CSS changes now work.

Time for a Bottom Up Rebuild?

@valquiria23 we gave to agree to disagree. People cant wait for someone else to do everything. The so called team (Gary) needs all the help he can otherwise development will stop or slow. He cannot be expected to do everything that everyone wants.

    Stripe v3 module for SCA

I have just placed a test order and added a comment to the order. That comment shows on the invoice at the top of the comments section. If I knew what I was doing I would look at the PayPal module and see why that only shows the customer order comments and not any of the other stuff it saves. Like I say the old module for Stripe used to do this so nothing lost. I just wondered if it could be removed. Thanks for taking the time to look.

    Stripe v3 module for SCA

Many thanks @raiwa for the quick response. There are some comments showing where the order comments should be n my invoice. This is the only payment module to show them. The old original module also showed them. I have circled the comments. What I dont have is an image with the standard order comments showing that a customer can add to the order process.

    Stripe v3 module for SCA

I have just tested the most recent version with live and test payments and all seems to be working as it should. I did uninstall and remove the old stripe code form the site before testing so things must be looking up. My only comment is that payment details are showing again on the invoices. Is there a way for this not to show, but to be saved somewhere. In some of the earlier versions this dint happen.

Time for a Bottom Up Rebuild?

How big do you think this active team of developers is. At the moment its Gary on his own. No Harald nor anyone else as far as I am aware. If people want these payment modules, get them coded, tested and let those that can add to the core see what you gave done. It may get added if its good enough.
  10. @burt It was John that contacted me for more details. Thought a post here may generate a bit more help or at the very least a few ideas.
  11. I has been pointed out that the user.css file is called before the bootstrap files, rather than after. Viewing the source of the page I see <!-- stylesheets hooked --> <style>* {min-height: 0.01px;}.form-control-feedback { position: absolute; width: auto; top: 7px; right: 45px; margin-top: 0; }@media (max-width: 575.98px) {.display-1 {font-size: 3rem;font-weight: 300;line-height: 1.0;}.display-2 {font-size: 2.75rem;font-weight: 300;line-height: 1.0;}.display-3 {font-size: 2.25rem;font-weight: 300;line-height: 1.0;}.display-4 {font-size: 1.75rem;font-weight: 300;line-height: 1.0;}h4 {font-size: 1rem;}}</style> <link href="user.css" rel="stylesheet"> <style>@media (min-width: 576px) {.card-group > .card.is-product {max-width: 50%;}.card-deck > .card.is-product {max-width: calc(50% - 30px);}.card-columns {column-count: 2;}} @media (min-width: 768px) {.card-group > .card.is-product {max-width: 33.333333333333%;}.card-deck > .card.is-product {max-width: calc(33.333333333333% - 30px);}.card-columns {column-count: 3;}} @media (min-width: 992px) {.card-group > .card.is-product {max-width: 25%;}.card-deck > .card.is-product {max-width: calc(25% - 30px);}.card-columns {column-count: 4;}} @media (min-width: 1200px) {.card-group > .card.is-product {max-width: 25%;}.card-deck > .card.is-product {max-width: calc(25% - 30px);}.card-columns {column-count: 4;}}</style> <!-- fa hooked --> <link rel="stylesheet" href="https://use.fontawesome.com/releases/v5.10.2/css/all.css" crossorigin="anonymous"> <!-- bs hooked --> <link rel="stylesheet" href="https://stackpath.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/4.3.1/css/bootstrap.min.css" integrity="sha384-ggOyR0iXCbMQv3Xipma34MD+dH/1fQ784/j6cY/iJTQUOhcWr7x9JvoRxT2MZw1T" crossorigin="anonymous"> Shouldnt the user.css stuff be after all the other bits. If so how do we change the sort order of the hooks?

    Royal Mail shipping module

Compare your RM files with the files from a standard oscommerce shipping module as I believe they were created using the flat rate as a base. I expect there has been a PHP change somewhere. You should also be able to find out why the module does not work by looking in your php error files.

    Stripe v3 module for SCA

Link to latest release version Latest version Is it a case that all the files in this latest release need to re-uploaded to the site or is it just the odd one or two. Upgrade instruction would be nice.

    Stripe v3 module for SCA

Just out of curiosity, is there a way to make the area where the card details are entered look a bit better. At first glance I didnt quite know where to enter the card number, and if I didnt know I am sure some of my older generation customers wont know either.

    Stripe v3 module for SCA

Just uploaded and installed this addon. After having an error which was my fault as I missed a file out when uploading to server, everything seems to be working well in both live and test mode. Many thanks to those that wrote the module and tested it. I wish there was a way to buy someone a beer.

    Advice needed on shipping module

I had a similar problem but it was on a very small scale. I send very few items by courier and then very few are heavy items, just over the 2kg limit of a small parcel with Royal mail so courier costs are not that high. I decided to keep things simple and just added a small percentage onto the cost of all courier deliveries to cover the additional costs to the far flung corners of the UK. I then push no additional charges for these far flung places. A bit of a cheat and not what you wanted, but it gets around a problem and looks good to those in the funny places in the UK that couriers dont like.

    Stripe v3 module for SCA

Looking forward to getting this installed and tested. Thanks for the work.
  18. @JcMagpie Thanks. I have tried with a blank user.css with only a h1 css on it and still nothing changed. @burt Tried that. Even tried removing everything and just adding a simple bit direct on the server. Dont worry about teaching me to suck eggs. @azpro for some reason you are the star. That worked and adding something similar for the other h tags also works. It did look like I may have missed out a comma, but I did try using just H6 with and without a . before it and still nothing changed. Saying that it may have also been the help request I sent to my hosts as I believe that their cache clearing was not working as sometimes even just changing text didn't show. Hopefully the next change will not take me all day between getting work done to change. Thanks for everyone's help.
  19. Gary nothing changes still. When I inspect the element in either firefox or Chrome browsers and manually change any of the settings the styles change, but not when changing the user.css file. I have tried clearing browsers and even tried on a different computer. Strange on this is.
  20. Sorry for sounding so thick, but will that change a standard < h6> tag in the product description to something smaller, or make all the h tags smaller. If so how does one change the colours. Changing in the user css file changes nothing.
  21. What does that do to any of the h tags that I want to change.

    Strong Consumer Authentication (SCA)

Stripe are still saying that users should install their latest API, and upgrade to a new version as it includes all the 3d secure stuff that previous versions didnt. Users without the 3d secure may be penalised as the risks of charge=backs will increase.-

    Updated Stripe payment module

I use Stripe as a payment method on my site and notice that the payment module itself has not been updated since 2014. The module works fine as it is so there is nothing to worry about. Stripe have updated their API recently and I was wondering if oscommerce was ever going to update this module.

    Updated Stripe payment module

I tried a while ago to get a developer to recode the module, but not one that I could find would actually do it and allow the code to be released on the forum for free or donations. In the end I gave up. Hopefully something will be done before the deadline as I got another email today from Stripe letting me know I needed to do something. All we can do is wait and see.
