  1. Oscommerce 2.3.4 has the basic function but it's not maintained anymore you must wait for Osc v4 to have all the functions. Also there some articles on the internet can help you

  2. Hello,

looking the code across to develop new modules, OSCV4 is a mix between 2 different codes, one based on the V2.3, another based on Yii.
    For example :
the query can be written in 2 different ways.
There are also many duplications about the code between Yii and v2.3
Advantage, the transition between v2.3 and Yii will more easy for the community but I recommend to use the Yii function if you decide to code
Inconvenient: We have 2 different frameworks inside at this moment. I hope in the future we will go on just one and the people will continue to use the old approach, no very good.

  3. Hello @asandros,

    Tk,
    Suggestion

For a next release, it will be interesting if we can have an option to reconfigure the system without reinstalling the db as 2.3.4 or 2.4.
Honestly, I am tired during my test to delete the db every time and to reinstall all. 1, ok, 2 ok but 20 I am tired !

Sorry, it's not clear what recommendations do you mean.

If you change to another hoster, you must reconfigure Osc, in this case, you must take in consideration your db, config and upload the files on the new hoster.
Currently, it's not possible via the install process to update Osc, you can only install a new Db
Also, when you install for the first time, you have a zip and the process is done by the server with the good right. If you move to another hoster,  you must upload all your files on the new server but I you can not follow the original installation process.
What are your recommendations (process to do) about this new installation, the rights on the files and directories, ?

    In this case,
1 - I must install  the original Osc
2 - upload my template and image
2 - Remove the DB and install my old DB

    or

1 - I can upload all the files from my computer
2 - upload my db inside my new sql server
3 - Change the chmod of directories and files (witch)
2 - Try to reconfigure the setting in local directories

What do you do when you must move an Osc on the new server.

note : It's not for me but for the community to understand the complexity.

    Thank you

  5. Hello @Ivan Holbi,

    Tk,
If I need to change a hoster or if I need to develop on my local server and export to my production, what are your recommendations? f I change my production sql database by my local db, do we have a problem to manage or it's transparent for example.
In function of your experiences, what is the size of DB in production, I suppose the DB can grow up quickly ?
In this case, do you recommend to export / import via ssh ?

  6. Hello @aisonet

    1. compressed/optimized images (if possible, webp would be great) ====> Yes
    2. Lazy loading images ===> yes it's inside
    3. Responsive images (different sizes from each image to serve on different devices) ====> Yes

Some more informations can give to you by the developer

  7. Hello @VadymG,

Is it possible to have a tuto about the backup ?
When you install the application, it creates symlink on the theme. What are the consequences if these symlinks are not there ?
What are recommendations about backup files and DB, change hosting, upload ftp backup ... ?

If we can have a tuto about that it will great for the community.

    Thank you

  8. Are you in local and witch OS system ?
Do you tried with another hoster ?
If you use Cpanel, look option php maybe something is not activated ?
Do you tried without to import product and customer ?
Do you tried to change the php version ?

    Just little ideas

  9. @Ivan Holbi,

Thank you for this explanation, but inside the documentation, I think there is something miss. How to set the different domain names in function of the specific channel.

    ex:

    test.com ==> channel test
    test1.com ==> channel test1 ...

It will be great to have this information to set the domain in function the channel. I suppose it's redirection ?

  10. Just a tip if you are blocked during the installation. On my side, it was impossible to select the product and customer option (Cpanel approach), but without I can finish the installation. If you have a problem before the last final step, you can try this.

  11. Hello,

Do you look the documentation : https://wiki.oscommerce.com/index.php?title=Installing_osCommerce_v.4.0

Osc v4 is more appropriate on dedicated server, Tested on my local ubuntu and with IspConfig ubuntu server (OVH), work fine
tested in this moent on Cpanel, I have a problem on the last step. On Cpanel, maybe with different hoster you can have some restrictions. I do not know if other people can share their experiences and if successful, share your Cpanel configuration to allow the people to test on their side.

  12. Bonjour,

I provided the solution in french about the question. You can let or remove this post as you wish (moderator).
