  1. Thank you Jack and Geoff for your inputs. I am more cleared on the topic now. As far as securing my website goes, all I have done was removing configuration/installation directory. I noticed Google has indexed some of my pages even underneath the admin directory. It doesn't sound right! As soon as I manage to utilize those add-ons I will leave my feed back. Good luck to all, Jay
  2. I am trying to find out how to fine tune my website (osCommerce Merchant V2.2 RC2a) in eyes of search engines. As far as SEO goes, I like to accomplish 3 things. However I am not sure what options to choose and in which order to proceed. I am listing the my three objectives: A- Have each page of the site with its own Title, Keywords, and Description Tag. B- Have each page with its human readable URL, or be URL friendly. C- Have a XML file for submission to Google Webmasters. Based on what I read in the forum, the add-ons of Header Tag SEO v3.2.3 is the way to take care of objective A. For URL friendly, I am guessing that I should use Ultimate SEO URLs V2.8 add-ons. And for a sitemap I should use add-ons of Google Sitemap SEO V1.5 (Not sure what "Google XML Sitemap Feed" fits into this). Here is my problem that I wish someone could help me with. Should I install all those 3 add-ons, or Header Tag SEO v3.2.3 also takes care of making it URL friendly or is it the other way around? It makes sense to create a sitemap after I make it URL friendly (I think it makes sense, one might have different opinion). If I have to install all those 3 add-ons, does it matter in which order I install them? I am just trying to become familiar with osCommerce. Thanks in advance to all who are making a difference. Jay

    USPS

This is how I tested and activated the USPS module. 1- First, sign up for an account for USPS Web Tools API at https://secure.shippingapis.com/registration/ . You receive a username and password by email. 2- Login to OsCommerce backend of you site (http://yourdomain/admin). Configuration > Shipping/Packaging . Enter your Postal Code. Logout. 3- Open web browser. 4- Load this URL (Use your own user id where it says EnterYourUserIdHere): http://testing.shippingapis.com/ShippingAPITest.dll/ShippingAPITest.dll?API=Verify&XML=<AddressValidateRequest%20USERID="EnterYourUserIdHere"><Address ID="0"><Address1></Address1><Address2>6406 Ivy Lane</Address2><City>Greenbelt</City><State>MD</State><Zip5></Zip5><Zip4></Zip4></Address></AddressValidateRequest> 5- You should receive something like this in your browser window (The point is that you shouldn't receive an error): <?xml version="1.0" ?> - <AddressValidateResponse> etc.... 6- Have your username handy and call USPS (1-800-344-7779). Explain that you run the test and it worked fine (Assuming that in fact you didn't receive an error). They will change your profile to Live and you should be able to use their Production Servers. 7- You will receive an email from [email protected] to confirm the activation. 8- Now, if you go to http://domainname, the USPS calculation should work. Those are the steps I took, and worked for me. Good luck http://www.kajavi.com
