    Easy questions here...

    I am also headed down this road soon and would appreciate any suggestions from folks or a report of what you find out, Propaganda. My #1 need is copying shipping information to the label making process so that nobody has to transpose by hand. That would be redundant an error-prone, not to mention silly. I'm going to need USPS and UPS.

    Has anybody already developed a system for the user to select how many results to show per page? Seems like a common thing but I don't see an add-on. Didn't want to re-invent the wheel. Thanks

    Administrator Privileges?

    Awesome, thanks. Not-so-related question this brings to mind. I've installed a handful of add ons now. I don't see much documentation on them as far as what they really do, end up looking like, etc. I'd like to see some screenshots and whatnot. This one is a great example. It doesn't even say exactly what it does, then gives a link to a discussion which is broken. Am I missing something or could the contributors elaborate a little more? I hate to waste the time to install something without knowing the end result.
  6. I'm curious if there are any add-on's that allow you to restrict access to certain functions per administrator? We will be having several people access the system to input orders over the phone using manual order maker. It would be nice if I can restrict them from configuration areas of the control panel. TIA

    I just played with this since I might want it too... Try this, with "Display Product Quantity" set to 5 (Admin-> Configuration-> Product Listing), change the following in catalog/includes/modules/product_listing.php starting at line 115 case 'PRODUCT_LIST_QUANTITY': $lc_align = 'right'; $lc_text = ' ' . $listing['products_quantity'] . ' '; break; to case 'PRODUCT_LIST_QUANTITY': $lc_align = 'right'; if ($listing['products_quantity'] > 0) { $lc_text = 'Currently In Stock';} else { $lc_text = 'Out of Stock';} break; Then you can play with formatting later obviously.

    If you are not using the inventory control Product Extra Fields would be the way to go, but if you are using the stock control it might be easiest just to add some logic to the product display page. Something like <span> <?php if (retrieve stock level) > 0 echo 'Product is in stock' else echo 'Product is out of stock' ?> </span> I'm a newbie too so that's just pseudocode obviously but an idea.

    Installing New Add-On

    Click on the database name in the left column. Now you should have some tabs on top, click on "Import". There is a "Browse" button that will let you find the .sql file. Alternatively, you can click the "SQL" tab and copy/paste the sql code.
  11. Our old ecommerce suite had a way to add items to the cart that were not in the database by sending a get request with item details to the "add to cart" script. This was awesome for adding items from a secondary database, I just had a script that generated the get request from the item details in the secondary database. Is there anything similar to this for osCommerce?

  13. Hello all, first post here :) I'm experimenting with osCommerce to replace our current system. A main thing I'm missing though is a way to make general invoices for repairs. Let me throw out some background, we are a brick and mortar store that added a standalone ecommerce solution years ago. At this point we get more business from the web than in person so I want to convert to a system that is web based but we can also enter sales in the store. (You can imagine we spend lots of time trying to keep different systems updated, a futile effort.) I'm checking out the POS add-ons, and it looks like osCommerce Point of Sale from MagneticOne may be okay, but pretty short on features. But, it might work. Any recommendations for a workable POS add-on are appreciated btw. However, we have one part of the business that might be a pain as far as I'm seeing right now... We have a repair department that needs to make invoices for the customer. I need it to be integrated in the system since we use parts from inventory for repairs, not to mention wanting to keep customer data central, etc. The reason a repair invoice is different than say a POS sale is the additional information of when the equipment was brought in, the details of the equipment, repair notes, completion status, those kind of things. Is there anything I might look at as a jumping-off point? Thanks in advance for your input.
