Incorrect value given in /htmldocs/main/login.php on line 63 am beginning to conclude that i must do all the upgrades, line by line alterations will just bring up the next stumbling block
  2. tried that Bob, got a bit further admin log on came in, forgot to mention had previously emptied the administrators database table, as expected system asked me to enter the first administrator, did so, got the following error message Error! Unable to determine the page link! Function used: tep_href_link('', '', 'NONSSL')
  3. 4. Sorry folks I just copied and pasted lol, this is the question hello everyone, long time no see, a site wrote many years ago is still working upfront but I can no access the admin. i have checked includes/application_top and the version is 2.3. According to cPanel Error Log, I have depreciation mysql functions in the php in admin/includes/functions/database.php on line 19 and also in admin/includes/application_top on line 167. I understand that the various upgrades 2.3.4, took into account mysql depreciation, but it seems odd that the front end still works. As the site has quite a lot of add ons, doing a fresh install of 2.3.4, will probably be just as time consuming as going thro the upgrades, so am reluctant to do that. Am also reluctant to start on the upgrades given that I feel confident that the front end would also have depreciated functions. Please ignore the version below, that was another site. Anyone got any advice ? thanks ken
  5. hi guys many years ago i created a site, the front end is still working, but can not now access the admin. I have checked includes_application top and the version is 2.3 CPanel error log is showing I have depreciation mysql in admin/includes/functions/database.php on line 19 and also in admin/includes/application_top.php on line 167. do i need to complete the upgrades from 2.3 to 2.3.4 to resolve this, just seems a little strange that the front end is working, without the upgrades, i am guessing it too has depreciated functions
  6. @@burt I know for a fact that had points 1, 2 and 4 been built into the core of v2.3.1 when I started, I would have done it, but suspect others would not. I turned off socially linking, from the first day, that may be the wrong decision, but hey ho, maybe I dont fully get faceache and twitter yet. and yes there is a very steep learning curve for newbies, so it is hard for them to do enough reading to do it correctly without adding more issues
  7. Good point I think, about the average Joe store owner, as an employee of a store owner, not a dev, I fairly confident that almost all newcomers to osc, have no concept of the benefit/or otherwise of seo, they just plough ahead without giving a thought to it. Some like myself and @@14steve14, may have got lucky, but I think we probably both did a little more research than some. That said, I do not think I could actually comment on what SEO should be added to the core, because I don't understand it nor the core enough, but safe to say the core could have more SEO implications, at least that way it will make newcomers think more about the issue
  8. Seems to me that this SEO thing is like tuning a carburetor, a dark art, which few if any can do well and they certainly don't give away what they know easily. I can only comment on my site, as it is my only experience of the the issue, so its worth mentioning that the site has a large amount of content in what is a very niche market, so its probably relatively easier for me compared to say I had a site trying to sell chocolates, flowers or spectacles for example. At present the site has in excess of 240,000 indexed pages on google, about a 9 months ago I added the SEO Pro Urls add on and uploaded an xml site map to google. To be fair I have no where near used the add on, as it was intended, I've added some category meta descriptions and a few other thing, but am in a catch up situation, which will probably never be resolved. Before I added these, the site had about 90% of its currently indexed pages, so whilst they have made a difference, it is mostly in terms of what google displays after a result, not the amount of pages indexed. Before I kicked off with the osc site, with its predecessor, I did invest a little money in google ads for around 4/5 products, say a clothing brand name and then say gloves, helmets, trousers etc, that was maybe 3/4 years ago now, but those same search strings still bring first page results .. all smacks of nepotism to me. Here's the thing I really don't get about SEO at all, most of my competitors, get much higher results than me on what I would generic terms rather than specific ones, so say for example, search for "beta trials parts", we appear as the seventh result, the majority of those above use do not have "beta trials parts", they have aftermarket parts which happen to fit a "beta" My take on this, is that all results above my site, bar one, are much older sites than mine, so their position for that search string is sort of set by their historical presence despite the fact that the content they are directing to has little bearing to the actual search string ? So it appears good content is the deal, but if others have been around for longer than you and flooded the market with inappropriate keywords, meta tags etc, you are still going to have to wait a while, before you surpass googles history
  9. Hi Jim No worries, thanks for the confirmation. I do optimize the database quite frequently, but am on a shared server, so don't know how much others are interfering or how much is actually my site slowing down the server. sooner or later will have to upgrade as we've only added about 5% of the products we want to regards Ken
  10. @@kymation Hi Jim Quick question about featured products and scroller, both work fine, but are very unresponsive when changing thro admin so I get around the issue by changing the products required in configuration table. Could this be something to with the fact that I have more than 30000 products so the drop down boxes are taking a lot of time to populate ? Regards Ken
  11. @@m0jon My apologies Jon, sorry wasn't ignoring you, just logged on for the first time in ages, but looks like you fixed it anyway. ken
  12. @@EuRoPLaSTiKs Are you using v2.3.1 or above, if so my understanding is that page width is set by the 960 grid system, theres loads of post about 960gs, tyr this for example hope this helps ken
  13. @@sharperjafs Have a look at this thread It seems to offer something like, but I think you'll need to convert the add on to v2.3 ken Also try
  14. Hi Clint this is closest thing i've found so far ken
  15. @@pweden, did you ever get the add on to work, if not. I just noticed that if you set up Send Extra Order Email in admin-configuration-mystore, it appears to send full details of the order. ken
