  1. Is there any reason for not making the entire admin section SSL? I have my sites setup to force the admin site to use SSL, regardless of the page. However, I do not recommend Forced SSL for those using dialup to access their server. Specifically if you are managing products. I think your approach is good, nonetheless. Great Job.
  2. Does anyone have a copy of Admin Access With Levels 1.5 or 1.6? I tried them all and these two were closest to optimal without making the change to using an email for login. It would be nice to know what happen to this contrib from the contribs directory. BTW, this was listed as contrib 1 before. Now there is no contrib 1 at all. Thanks.
  3. Hiyas, I think you have made great improvement on this contribution. I like the idea that you can get your password emailed to you if you forget it. However, I don't particularly care for the email address as the login name.
  4. Hiyas All, LTNS. Been away for a while. Just wanted to share an improvement on this contribution. Situation: After you add a contrib to the list, when you set the contrib active, you get a listing of the records. If you want to add another item, you have to click the link on the left to get to the default page for contrib control before you can add another contrib to the list. I made a modification to allow insertion of a new item after activating most recent. Modification: In installed_contributions.php FIND: <?php if (!$HTTP_GET_VARS['action']) { ?> <tr> <td colspan="2" align="right"><?php echo '<a href="' . tep_href_link(FILENAME_INSTALLED_CONTRIBUTIONS, 'action=new') . '">' . tep_image_button('button_insert.gif', IMAGE_INSERT) . '</a>'; ?></td> </tr> Above the <?php INSERT: ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?<tr> ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?<td colspan="2" align="right"><?php echo '<a href="' . tep_href_link(FILENAME_INSTALLED_CONTRIBUTIONS, 'action=new') . '">' . tep_image_button('button_insert.gif', IMAGE_INSERT) . '</a>'; ?></td> ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?</tr> This modification will provide an insert button on the page. This perhaps may not be the best method, but it works and is simple. =)

    I hate replying to my own message...but... well here is the fix... In /includes/affiliate_configure.php, just before ?> ADD // Affiliate Banner Fix define('DIR_WS_CATALOG', '/'); Then In affiliate_show_banner.php, LOOK FOR <?php $pic = DIR_FS_CATALOG . DIR_WS_IMAGES . $banner; echo $pic . "<br>"; if (!is_file($pic)) { echo "failed<br>"; } else { echo "success<br>"; } ?> AND REPLACE WITH <?php $pic = DIR_FS_CATALOG . DIR_WS_CATALOG . DIR_WS_IMAGES . $banner; echo $pic . "<br>"; if (!is_file($pic)) { echo "failed<br>"; } else { echo "success<br>"; } ?> If that does not work for you let me know.

I have the same problem with this mod, but I am closer to finding the problem. in the affiliate_show_banner.php i found that there is an entry for DIR_WS_CATALOG, which does not exist in my osC. I added it to configure.php at the bottom to make it report properly. define('DIR_WS_CATALOG', '/'); however, banners still do not show...still working on it

Thanks for you reply sir LEO What is the difference between commission and customer discount you talked about? mmmm, I only sell 4 subscriptions so in this way avery client can get the commission discount by seting up a affiliate account. Becoming an affiliate does not reduce the rate they get charged for product or services. It only gives them a commission on the sales that are generated through their affiliate ID. Discount is different because it allows you to discount based on what you are selling. Commission and Discount are two totally different things, but can be used in conjunction to give added benefit. When combined, they can also be abused if you aren't careful. Example, if you are commissioning at 25% and discounting at 25% and your profit is 50%, then you have lost all profits. With the situation you have, I would implement some policies. 1. That you only mail out after they have been subscribed at least 30 days. 2. That they actually do refer people. In other words, No traffic from them, no money. 3. They must agree to receive the affiliate newsletter because it is the channel used for communicating information to them. You could also add that they must refer a subscriber if you want. But realisticly, their only job is to get the traffic to your site. It is website designer/store owner responsibility to make the site and banners appealing enough to make a conversion. I see what you are getting at. It sucks to have people sign up just to get a kickback commission because they are only taking up more space. However, on the other hand. Even if they aren't generating traffic, you have an email address that you can send newsletters, which could later generate traffic. Sorry if I'm rambling. I try to be descriptive and helpful..probably too much...=)

    My OS Store

The most likely cause for slow loading is image size and possibly too many images. I recommend setting the products listed on main page to maximum of 6. You don't need many listings on main because you get about 3 product listings just from infoboxes. The default for new products is 9. Change this to 6 and this should help some. Then, the image size becomes a big factor. Try to reduce your image size by using GIF format or reducing colors or reducing pixel size, or combination of any of the three. Then, after you have done that, you can start looking at other ways to tweak. such as removing the corner images from the infoboxes.

    My OS Store

I will help you if you will answer this question first. Why does the subject matter in your post differ so much from the subject you specified?
  12. I looked into this and the easiest way that I see is: Add OSC Affiliate to your catalog and then add the charity as an affiliate. You could modify your checkout page to allow someone to select a referrer/affiliate/charity, etc, which when selected would add the code for the "affiliate".
  13. Let me share a weird problem. I finished tweaking a game website. And yes, I used osCommerce to build a site. You would be surprised how useful osC is. Anyway, I installed the Guestbook contrib early on and it has worked great the entire time. But recently, after site has been running a while, someone posted and now I get a Divide by zero problem Warning: Division by zero in /htdocs/includes/classes/split_page_results.php on line 59 I have not edited split_page_results.php at all. I have a feeling that it may be trying to use a function that was in application top. I removed many of the things that were in app top because we didn't need them. But the weirdest, is that it quit working and no modifications had been done. Anyway...while it worked, I have to say it worked much better than the others I tested...=) Nice contrib nonetheless. It still works great on my other sites.

    PHPBB Integration Username

The biggest problem I ran into trying to fully integrate phpbb was the way it sets a cookie. It is not compatible with osC. Also, it is terribly hard to make phpbb to look like your site as they have the silver template fully integrated and it's a bear to remove. Right now I am using openBB, but mainly due to the fact that I was able to get lots of information from one of the programmers. I only had to add a field to the customer table called username, modify the create_account.php to allow this. In addition, I will later add a section in account_edit.php to allow current customers to create a username. I'm pretty sure that the same can be done with phpBB. But what I have found to be common among all BBs is that they all have gone nuts over bells and whistles. It would be nice if someone made a modular type BB that allows you to select which bells and whistles you want.
  16. I did look at this, but it is impossible to do. Yahoo PayDirect requires that you log onto their site "TWICE" and create a link for each individual product you want to accept payment for. The result is html code that has an cryptic sequence of letters and numbers for a simple dollar amount. In summary, they want to be hard to work with. Now, I hate turning a customer away for anything, but I can promise you that I will not go log in twice every time, and btw...it is two different passwords. And, I'm not going to create a special link for every product. They are impossible to work with for anyone that sells a large variety of products. My recommendation to anyone is "Do not accept Yahoo PayDirect" In addition, I emailed them about sending payment info with IPN and got a generic answer. I replied back and told them that the answer they gave me did not answer my question. They did at least take the time to look into my inquiry. I am posting the convo that occured: First Inquiry: --------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello, Thank you for writing to Yahoo! PayDirect. PayDirect payments, or to create a custom PayDirect link for items you sell on your personal website or auctions sites, please follow the instructions below: Just visit: http://paydirect.yahoo.com and click on "Sign in here." PayDirect. Thank you for your feedback regarding Yahoo! PayDirect. We arent able to offer this feature at the moment, but weve noted your comments and will pass them along to the right people. We appreciate your suggestions its the best way for us to learn what you want and how to make our service more useful to you. Thank you again for contacting Yahoo! Customer Care. Regards, Yahoo! Customer Care For assistance with all Yahoo! services, please visit: http://help.yahoo.com/ Original Message Follows: ------------------------- Thanks for trying, but you did not answer my question. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now, you have to look at the business end of it. Why did Yahoo create PayDirect? Yes, of course to make money, but there is more. They created PayDirect mainly so they could have a means to take auction payments. When Ebay bought PayPal, Ebay changed the PayPal system to stop processing payments for Yahoo auctions. Thus, Yahoo had to come up with alternate means to handle online payments. Right now, PayDirect does what they intended it to do. So, with that in mind, do you think that they are going to make any effort to support us with our own commerce site? BTW, if you have not checked in to it, PayDirect works great if your site is hosted on Yahoo. But you can be sure that your features will be limited and they won't be running osCommerce.

the affiliate accounts and customer accounts are in separate tables, so it is possible to be both an affiliate and a customer. and yes, an affiliate can buy through their own link and get a commission. I have affiliates do this all the time, but I don't mind it as long as they are also selling to others and not just themselves. They no my policy and I have not had any problems. Yes I do lose some profit, but I am still making money. If an affiliate is making you money, should it really matter if they save money and get a commission? Especially if you aren't losing any money. I don't think there is an easy way to block this from happening, But you can set limits on the percentage. For instance if your profit is 50% on your products, you could set the limit on commission to 10% and limit on customer discount to 10%, thus max they could save is 20%...leaving you still making 30% profit. I do see your point though. there needs to be some way of cross checking the commissions to verify the sale did not get credited for commission on self purchases.

this looks like a problem with the sequence that files load or a missing function in one of your files. I am using the latest version of osC and I have a sessions.php in my includes/functions folder. However, I believe the error you are getting to be unrelated to sessions.php. But, to better help determine where the actual problem is, which version of osC Affiliate are you using. I'm no expert, I'm just have a knack for troubleshooting. =)

I am starting this thread for both support area and general discussion about integrating openBB into osC. My current effort is towards reworking openBB to use osC authentication. If you post here, someone will try to help you as I/we/they can. Keep in mind, that most of us have to earn a living and may not be able to respond immediately, so be patient. =)

wound up using an iframe to get it to work properly here is the content you can use to embed it in your php document <tr height=600><td> <iframe src="http://www.yourdomain.com/forums/"'>http://www.yourdomain.com/forums/" marginwidth=0 marginheight=0 hspace=0 vspace=0 frameborder=0 scrolling=yes> <ilayer src="http://www.yourdomain.com/forums/ visibility="show"> </ilayer> </iframe> </td></tr> you can adjust the tr height to fit your board

For those that want to know...=) I now have openBB integrated into the content of my gamesite. It was a little complicated, but not very. I will post an integration contribution after I have finished the merge of the forum login with osCommerce login. In summary, you just need to create a forums.php page designed like your current pages. within the main body area, you will need to add require('fullurlpathtoyourforums') statement. this will wrap your forums with your pages. I did notice a problem with images. you need to copy the images from the forums directory to your main images directory. Yet another problem... In my header, the header background image is layering in my header when i open the forums. But, this is not a major concern for me right now. Especially since I hacked away at the header to remove all the shopping cart images. anyway, i think openbb is going to work out great for integration with the best ecommerce engine on the internet, osCommerce!!!

    Help intergrating a forum

I would have to say PHPBB is the easiest to install. But it is terribly hard to integrate with your site if you want a custom look. In my opinion, I think phpBB has become a piece of junk because they have added bells and whistles over performance. Themes/Skins can be OPTIONAL, but should never be required for any program. I am currently implementing openBB which is much easier to customize to your looks. The hurdle I am up against right now is getting it to work with user accounts already in the database.
  25. SirLeo

I have seen this problem before. It usually happens when you are on a shared host. Some user must have set their sql setting to use persistent connections.
