If you will NEVER have anything else on your site, installing a major application into / is tolerable. Even then, I recommend putting it in its own directory and doing a URL rewrite to that place. It cleanly separates the application from the site overhead files. Certainly if you might ever install a second application (e.g., a forum to discuss your products) you'll want it set up that way.

What happening in the world? Are big companies destroing the enviroments? Why search for nothing in our servers? apple, google, facebook... I realy dont understand. If a bot start a ping a lot of server answer to them, but most of the answer is fault. Who will pay for this energy? Arg!

Testing on Ubuntu and Win8 complete develeopment enviroments: LAMP, WorkBrench, PHP coding, GIT. Not as easy than XP was.

I got some problem in frontend, but the admin panel works fine. I made a forum about it here: http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/topic/350097-osc3-simple-content-manager-forum
I try to find the display problem later maybe the install.txt is missed.
