    Official PayPal IPN Support Thread

@AlexStudio After following alancwade's thread for the IPN fix, I took your fixed code and placed it into a new paypal_ipn.php file, backed up the old file and uploaded the new file with the new code you provided. When I went to the "Payment Modules" section in the admin screens there were only about half of the payment options available that had been there before, and I got the following message at the top of the Payment Modules section: Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING in /nfs/c02/h02/mnt/22612/domains/myclientstorename.com/html/tmstore/catalog/includes/modules/payment/paypal_ipn.php on line 14 I just did a straight copy of the code you had in the forum thread, renamed the file and uploaded it. Any ideas on what might be wrong? Thanks in advance.

    Official PayPal IPN Support Thread

I have the ipn (v2.3.3) installed on a client's store. The shop has been live for approximately one month now. During that time roughly 33 orders have been placed. I've been keeping detailed records of the transactions, and I have a couple of things I am starting to perceive as problems. The first issue: Of the 33 orders that registered in the order history screen of OS Commerce, only 23 (69%) have had the money actually show up in Paypal. The other 10 orders that are registered in OS Commerce's order history received no money in Paypal, but still logged the order in OS C. My first question is... is this normal? Why would these orders show up as being placed in OS Commerce and money never show up in Paypal? Is this a customer issue where they bag out of the order before completing it, or is this a processing issue within OS Commerce/Paypal IPN (which is my only option for payment at this point.) My fear is that there is an issue in the order processing, but I have no visibility on whether there is a hitch in the process. For other using the IPN is this a common problem, and how do you deal with it? The second issue: While there is a 69% transaction success rate, the IPN response is at only about 5%. Of that 5% there is no rhyme or reason why some are receiving responses and some are not. I just installed the v2.3.4 (with the PHP globals), but that did not help with the problem at all. Thanks.

Does anyone know why the OS Commerce order number would not be passed to PayPal during a transaction? It does not show up anywhere in the transactions that are being processed, and as a result I have no real way to do any verification between PayPal's notification of payment e-mail and the order in OS C beyond trying to compare day and time of the order (which is a pain.) I have re-installed the IPN twice, but I'm not getting any changes. I'm also only receiving a response from the IPN about 10-20% of the time. Thanks.

@mmph Okay. So that's weird. I don't get this section of the e-mail at all: That is why I am getting no corresponding information between PayPal and the OS C store. The weird thing is that I just upgraded the IPN and I get the same omission. I guess I will back track again and see if I am missing a setting or something. Thanks. So, I guess I have one more question before I go snooping through the documentation again. Are there any other fields in the IPN payment setup that you changed that might be affecting it? The only fields I edited were obviously the "Enable PayPal IPN Module" (set to true) and "Gateway Server" (set to Testing) and E-Mail Address (set to test e-mail address.) Did you change any of the other settings in the module? When I initially read through the instructions I did not see that any other fields needed to be changed from their default status unless you were using encrypted web payments. Thanks again.

Thank you mmph very much for your response. That makes perfect sense. I would like to add one more question if you would not mind. It's about the order information between OS Commerce and PayPal. I see that OS C provides an invoice number (i.e. invoice #17), but that number does not appear in PayPal anywhere. PayPal gives it a completely new number on their site and does not even send that number back to OS C. Sos, is the e-mail the only way to find out what that number is? Is there no way to get that order number (or some type of corresponding number) passed to PayPal from OS C or Vice Versa? Thanks again.

Okay, so one additional question in addition to my previous post. I have the IPN installed, and works great when orders are taken all the way through the confirmation step. Yet, if an order goes through and the user clicks on the pay button in PayPal, but leaves the screen before they hit the "confirmation" button (which reroutes the user back to the site and shows them the order success page) the payment goes through, but the order is not updated in the order history as being paid and the customers cart is not cleared out. How can this be resolved? Oh, and one additional question. Say you have 15 orders that go through in one day on PayPal for $15.00, how do you tie those back to your order history in OS Commerce. I don't see any corresponding order numbers or anything between PayPal's information and OS Commerce's. Thanks in advance for the help.

When you setup the IPN do you need to fill out the following fields if you are not enabling encrypted web payments? "Your Private Key" "Your Public Certificate" "PayPal's Public Certificate" "Your PayPal Public Certificate ID" thanks.

  12. I'm using RC2 and the default Paypal IPN module (v2.3.2) that comes installed. I have it activated, and it seems to work well when set to "Aggregate". When I turn it on to "Per Item", however, I start to get errors. It will attempt to send the order over to Paypal, but returns an error that information is missing from the transaction. If you then go back and try to submit the order again, it (during transfer to Paypal) tells the user that the order has been placed and to contact the administrator/store. Payment is never sent and the order is never really placed. I need to find a reliable way to send the items ordered over to Paypal in the initial transaction so that they show up on the in the transaction details. I will then be able to send out product because I can see what the customer ordered in Paypal. Any help/thoughts on how to pass this information would be helpful. Thanks.

So, another link in the chain. The reason the items don't pass to Paypal is because of the aggregate setting, but the item setting (which is what I need) is not recommended, and for good reason. I turned it on, got one successful order and then the second time I ran through the process I got a missing information error from Paypal's gateway, and upon trying to re-send the order got a message from Paypal stating that the invoice had already been paid. Does anyone have an idea about how to solve this problem. I REALLY need ordered items to show up in the Paypal transaction detail. ANY help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you very much.

    Official PayPal IPN Support Thread

Sorry to be a pain, but I got the issue worked out with the IPN module. I installed it, but when I place a test order the product information does not pass from OS Commerce to Paypal. When I look at the order this is all the information I see: Web Accept Payment Received (Unique Transaction ID #7ES02506F84971538) Business Name: business x (The sender of this payment is Verified) Email: eric@businessx.com Payment Sent to: micah@tinycorp.net Total Amount: $0.25 USD Fee Amount: -$0.25 USD Net Amount: $0.00 USD Item Amount: $0.25 USD Shipping: $0.00 USD Handling: $0.00 USD Quantity: 1 Item Title: Tinycorp Custom: 3 Date: Apr. 23, 2008 Time: 22:03:23 PDT Status: Completed ---------------------------------------- So, my questions are 1) why does the item I ordered not pass along to Paypal and 2) there is no order information in this Paypal order that I can even compare to the completed orders in OS Commerce, so how do you know who paid for what and what corresponds with what?

I just posted in the thread prior to this one. I have now installed the IPN, but the module does not show up in the Admin>Payment section for installation. Is there some reason why it would not show up to be installed? Thanks.
