I had the same issue as discussed. Somewhere i've seen another topic (Dutch) with the same issue. The solution is the following:
Use the contri as described below. It obliges someone to login first before they can access. If you combine this with Member approval, you have it all in hand. Remember to adjust the visibility in the columns left and right on your starting page (i forgot how)
This however brings me to a point where i have to warn! After updating my database, changing all the php files and so on, the system works! you can't login unless you're approved
but......
i can't access my admin page anylonger so i can't approve anything. I'm lucky i'm still in testing mode but looking for an answer as well. Guess i've changed a bit too much in one php file somwhere. will try to put the old ones back one by one to find the problem.
Anyway, if you're aware enough of the possible problems, give it a go! it might help.
