Are you refering to the default osCommerce text?
If so, Go to catalog/includes/languages/english/index.php
Find the following line that starts with the following (about line 13 – usually the first one ) and change it to what you want it to say
define('HEADING_TITLE', 'TEXT_MAIN', 'This is a default setup blah blah . PROJECT_VERSION . '</b></font>.');');Change to:
define('TEXT_MAIN', '');Now you could simply add whatever text you want in your templates.
Well not really. :) Although you can see how confused I am I posted a link to the wrong site.

Hi I am sorry if I seem dumb but I have tried my hardest to help myself to no avail.
I have installed a template and also STS but can not see how to alter the text in the main image section.
Can any body point me to wards some docs I can follow. The ones I have seen assume too much prior knowledge.

I was replying to the OP, but the lack of support for V3 is since most developers are waiting for the beta b4 taking it on board, due to the changes that are due.
Its unfortunate that many jump in with v3, b4 researching anything first.

When i say support I mean the useful replies such as yours. (not being sarcastic) But if you see my point the guy asked a month ago and no one replied . Saying what you said was useful. You might not think so but I appreciate the rules prevent you "advertising" even inadvertently but if your reply had of been a month ago...or someone had replied...do you see what I am saying!
As for developers waiting I had version 3 for some time now on the basis it seemed point less installing version 2 only to relearn version 3 when it went live. Version 3 will suit be as |i am not going to be doing online transactions until some time in the future.
I felt version 3 would have been out of Alpha by the time I was ready to go live.
But I do know what you mean though! ;)

I have just installed a free template and it suits me just fine.
My comment was based on the fact during my search for info on where the tax rates have been hidden in version 3 I felt that I came across many unanswered questions from others with the same questions as I had.
Hence it looks to the newbie that support is not that forthcoming.
I realise people have lives and are not expected to sit here all night in case I post once in 12 months BUT some posts have not been replied to since August and beyond.
A brilliant product.....I used it many years ago! It would be sad to see it die through lack of user support....and that includes new users saying if their problems have been solved.

Is there a source to purchase v3 templates like there is for osCommerce v2?
seems not. Is this software dying or is support just slow for version 3??

I am using 3.0a4 and I do not see the admin interface for this either!
I see the database table records for this, and the calculation of tax is working correctly, but the interface to make edits to values through the web, and set tax rates for tax classes seems to be missing.
Is this section yet to be developed?
I am having the same problem but you asked this question in August.

No dramas. That was basically all I was looking for info wise. As mentioned I installed oscommerce and installed the template via ftp and the site still looks like the basic install so I guess it doesn't work/not compatible. I will look at buying one for the current release.
re: turn wha on... I thought there might be a section in the backend where you can switch between templates i.e. like joomla
There should be. I started using oscommerce some 4 years ago and I remember what I had the most problems with now.....layout and templates.
I can understand some resentment when some people charge for what other do for free but if editing the main page was made easier and CSS changes easier to access I am sure many more people would be able to use the software.

I do not know about X-Files (I wouldn't go that far) but somethinging is really buggy on their end. Unfortunately I do not know any other way to check status directly from ICQ server. Actually, there's been couple of scripts but they do not work any more. If anybody knows the sollution to this problem (getting status directly from ICQ server) it would be appreciated greatly.

Hi denis I have been really busy in the past two seeks and I have not checked the site much but I just logged in and I notice the images are not showing. IS this due to the ICQ status problems or corrupted or missing files my end? I will have a look around but if its down to status problems I am stumped.

yes denis has amde some alterations and it now works for both guido amd myself. Hopefully denis will pick this us if not I can let you try it out at your own risk!
The one problem we have found but hjave yet to let denis know is that if one person is on live chat and another tries to come on also it crashes the first conversation......but we have some more testing to do first!

I've just this morning installed MS1 onto a server running PHP4.3.0
No problems whatsoever with the install, and it appears to be working fine!
Thanks burt ! so a picture starts to emerge but what I could do with is someone who wishes to install live support or /chat/leave a message to install the following contrib http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions,872
and tell me if they have problems running it!
If any one does do this could you please post your findings.
My problems are occuring on a post Nov snapshot so if I really have to I will have to use MS1 BUT as this will entail much work that I can't even remember WHAT I am have done I am slightly reticent to set off down that route just now. I would prefer to find out what the problem is and get that shop live and set a new one up with a view to switching as and when I get all that sorted.

I've tested a default snapshot of MS1 on my PHP 4.3.1 server and it runs perfectly.
An added note, is that my November 2002 snapshot had problems, though this was with a contribution I had installed, once I disabled the 'Ad Tracker' contribution, I was up and running better than ever! :D
So I guess I could some it all up as... osCommerce is stable under PHP 4.3.1

Nice to know its fine for you. In fact I think mine is also BUT its a problem with one contrib I have , the biggest worry and the reason I am thinking that maybe its down to 4.3.1 is because many others run this contrib along with the Author and they have no such problems. It is the most frustarting thing I have with OS Commerce especially as I dont understand enough to know how to test or fix it.............

I thought a new topic was warranted seeing as I seem to have found the fix for this.
The problem is obviously related to some problem/bug/misconfiguration with 4.3.0.
Hiowever the problem is caused by just one line in my GV code.
The line is in includes/classes/order_total.php in the collect_posts function
$GLOBALS[$post_var] = $HTTP_POST_VARS[$post_var];
what appears to be happening is that if $HTTP_POST_VARS[$post_var] is null then the $GLOBALS array becomes corrupted.

as you were the only one who manged to solve my last problem after a month of trying I have resorted to you again as I am wondering if my problem could be down to problems with PHP version 4.3.1.
What appears to happen is that an include will not happen as it says the file is not there but it is AND the path is shown correct AND the permissions are right.
The errors are
Warning: main(configure.php) [function.main]: failed to create stream: No such file or directory in /home/dcracing/public_html/catalog/chat2.0/main/chat.php on line 11
Fatal error: main() [function.main]: Failed opening required 'configure.php' (include_path='') in /home/dcracing/public_html/catalog/chat2.0/main/chat.php on line 11
does this sound anything like the same type of erros you have fixed......could it possibly be associated with PHP 4.3.1?
Any help appreciated I am going nuts just now!

I'm running Sep 2002 2.2 and haven't solved my problem with php 4.03.
I think this is a serious issue, many people I read on this forum have same issue. Someone should come out with a solution

My version appears to be 4.3.1 but except for this one problem I cant say I have noticed a lot of problems yet!

I have been told that servers running 4.3.x have problems with OS Commerce can any body confirm of deny this please?
I also have a problem where and include will just not find a file that IS there but an error message reports it is not there.........could this be down to my host having 4.3.1 installed or is it just a different version/snapshot of OS commerce causing me grief...........?
I know there is an update script for MS1 but it would seem its not for version 2.2 and is only for version 2.1.
Any comments appreciated!

Why do we have to keep having so many snapshots all they seem to do is cause problem with contribs......which is the life blood of os commerce.

I seem to have a problem with includes in a post nove snapshot has the way the incudes are handles been changed since then. It has been suggested that my problem lies with the server I am on but OScommerce works just fine its just a contrib that fails to worek for me.......others have installed it successfully so what could I be doing wrong and or how copuld I fix it.

In an attempt to solve this problem once and for all as its not just me that has it I have been advised to add some info.

is the thread you can find out what is happening.
BUT basically a guy has produced a contrib that seems not to work on some specific snapshots. We cant find out why and also I do not know how to debug......in that I mean step through the script as it gives an error message but we can't see why!
A suggestion was made to change include to require but all that does is supress the error messages but the script still has problems finding the file it should BUT the file is most certainly there!
Could someone PLEASE give us some other ides how to solve this problem!?

I am terribly busy at the moment (as we all are I guess) - hope to get somthing done end of month (feb) - but can't promise.
THanks for that dude. Its more acase of I need to go live with a store and wondering if its worth waiting but given a reasonable time scale its fairly obvious I need to go before they are likely to be ready. BUT thanks for all your hard work anyway I can use them on the sites first makeover :)

to you mean the php and linux version ?
try and look in the php.info in your server panel ( control panel ) from your hosting provider.
my one i print out so if i need i get all my information.

Nope :) I meant what version of OS commerce we have installed..i.e snapshot. denis seemed to be able to tell you have a wierd version installed........but I dont know how he did that!

so I am pretty sure it is path related but I dont know what different versions of OS have been altered and how this affects paths.....
and with the new one i get the popup window with the picture inside and still nothing to click.With the new version I get no picture displayed at all.

I think it has to be but until we get a few people who are using the contrib to post so we can see what THEY have got and which version of OS commerce they are using we are hardly likely to make much progress and my requests to tell me how the incldudes have been changed has been viewed only 9 times and replied to 0.

For those that have problems similar to Andy try doing the following. In chat2.0/main change all include('configure.php'); to require('configure.php');.
Also change it in catalog/includes/boxes/chat.php and chat2.0/admin folder.
If I do this it goes past the error but still does not work denis.
I am starting to think it really is some thing they have chnaged in the later snapshots.....perhaps one of them would be so kind as to allude to what has been changed or altered.

I am in the same boat.
I have read and read but I just do not understand what to do.
I searched for column_left.php as I wish to add a link to my forum. But found 5 versions.
One I disregarded as its in another install on my server but
