  1. "What you see as a weakness for osc not having a built-in template framework I see it as a strength and flexibility. Imagine what would had happened if the stock osc was bundled with BTS. " Perhaps if your coming fro ma programmers or coders point of view yes I can understand how the "openess" of the system would be a plus. From a novice users standpoint its a roadblock to getting beyond the default look of oscommerce. From my perspective as a Commercial Artist is sorely lacking from the position that if your store looks generic it ain't gonna sell. I'm a hack at coding....at best.... but I muddle my way through. I'm just more interested in getting an end result that looks good and attracts customers. I don't want to spend time fumbling with additional installs when I can be working on the design...it's what I do best and what I enjoy most...to me coding is like pulling teeth but we each have our lots in life...and the finer points of oscommerce modification keeps a good deal of people in business. Thanks for the help. I'll check into it......and I'll still be hoping for a better, more intuitive way of creating the stores front end. Brett
  2. I'm by no means an authority on this and , like you, am seeking some help in this matter. I purchased a template from Template Monster only to find out that it was not compatible with my hosts php version. It was a complete osCommerce install package so there was little possibility of uploading just the necessary files to my existing and up-to-date osCommerce install. I would hope someone could tell me if there are "add- on" templates and where we might find/buy them. Templates seem to be one of the weak spots of oscommerce. Unlike Joomla which has a module, component and template installer built into the admin, osCommerce seems to be an upload /replace approach making template developers create a complete install of the OSC package. If anyone can lend their insights it would be much appreciated.
  3. Can you please calrify this for me. I'm at this point in the Paypal installation. After install this payment module in admin, you need to setup all necessary options before testing. First upload your PayPal API Certificate to your host, your FILE ROOT path (the parent directory of yout HTTP ROOT) is recommended. Make sure it is not accessable through internet browsers or other agents. I'm logging into myaccount via ftp client....am I looking for the root directory of my store or the "public html" folder? How would I " Make sure it is not accessable through internet browsers or other agents."?
  4. One quick and silly question. How do I know which PayPal IPN to download. Which is most current? Most reliable, best documented? Please suggest which Download Controller version too as I will need to do both. Thanks for your help Brett
  5. I could also use some help and clarification on installing the downloads_controller.sql database. Prior someone said : Open the contrib's file 'downloads_controller.sql' using your programming editor (NOT Word!... but Notepad is okay) and copy all the content into the clipboard (Ctrl+A, Ctrl+C). Fire up your phpMyAdmin (the program to manage your mySQL database with), connect to your osCommerce database. Scroll down until you see the input field 'Run SQL query/queries on database osCommerce'. Now PASTE the funny SQL code there. And press the 'GO' button. But I dont see the Run SQL query/queries on database osCommerce' in my list. Is there some complete documentation for the Download Controller installation. This all seems rather piecemeal so far. Multiple versions, partial documentation....etc. Thanks 4 any help Brett
  6. Like bluntknife I am getting the same error. I'm scouring this thread for some help but none so far and can't see that he found any help here either so far. Being new to oscommerce I'm sure I've missed something..perhaps in the install. I downloaded and installed Download Controller v5.3 within the current version of oscommerce. Some additional details of the installation process would have been nice. I expected to find free shipper and free charger modules once I got back to my admin but I see nothing. Maybe thats whats wrong. The documentation mentions adding additional code in several places. I havent yet as I couldnt clearly understand what it was ment to accomplish. Maybe this is the problem. If someone could talk a look I would appreciate it. I'm not a programmer per say but I have enough experience to edit a little code, reorganize things and "Get er done". It would be much appreciated. The error reads as: Fatal error: Cannot redeclare tep_get_configuration_key_value() (previously declared in /home/russmode/public_html/store/includes/functions/downloads_controller.php:13) in /home/russmode/public_html/store/includes/functions/downloads_controller.php on line 13 The site is at: http://russmodernbass.net/store/ Thanks Brett
