  1. Maybe I'm being stupid, but what advantages does this mod offer over the built in geo zones for payment and shipping modules?
  2. This isn't really an issue for discussion here, the issue is a flaw with realtime credit card processing and is nothing to do with the Order Editor mod. Having said that I do appreciate its an issue. I process all credit cards manually through my banks online system and its very time consuming. I'd like to automate it and I could, except I have a lot of advance orders which just doesn't work with realtime processing - the same as adding products doesn't. Its an issue which the payment processors and / or Mastercard and Visa need to address though. The way in which the Order Editor processes the order_totals values is flawed - as its hard coded rather than using the osC code which creates them when the order is first placed. I'm working on a re-write which will use the osC code instead - if successful all of the tax problems will be gone for good. Jon.
  3. Actually, the place to start is with checkout_process as this is where all of the order related classes get created then called before being written to the database. If you look at this you should be able to work out the way it works. I just had a look through it and it doesn't look like it will be too difficult, but it will take me a while to work it all out as I'm not that familiar with the code. The person who wrote checkout_process could probably do what we need very quickly. Again, I'm not an expert so I wouldn't take any of my comments as gospel! Jon.
  4. I installed the osc Afilliate contribution a few days ago, solely to monitor the performance of click through advertising. I've been looking at the click throughs and found something a bit concerning. There have been a number of click throughs with a browser of 'GoogleBot/2.1' with an ip address to match. This would suggest that the GoogleBot is in effect, clicking through on adwords links. I haven't checked as to whether I'm being charged for this yet, but why is the Googlebot even following the adwords links? Anyone else notice this? Am I misreading the information? Jon.
  5. Actually it shouldn't be necessary to copy any of the order_totals (or other) code from catalog as part of the install as you could just refer to it directly. There won't be any need to change the order_totals modules or any of the code on the catalog side. All you have to do is setup all of the variables with the relevant information that existed just before the order was placed, ie before the order_totals were created. It looks like the actual order_total modules themselves use variables setup by the order class, so it will be necessary to create the order class prior to calling the order_totals class / modules. At least that is how I see it. I'm not PHP expert but logically all we need to do is run the part of the checkout process that creates all of these values in the first place. Does that make sense? It would also be able to create the shipping values, but as some installs would have multiple shipping options it would be necessary to prompt for the correct shipping module to be selected. Though we'd also need to be able to offer an override, to manually change them. So in effect there would be a 'automatically update order_totals and shipping' button and a 'manual update' button. Jon.
  6. I guess the easiest thing is just to copy the order_total class in to admin, as part of the install. One issue I can see is that sometimes you might want the standard order_totals records. Though it shouldn't be too difficult to add an override so that they aren't generated automatically. I had a quick look at the code and it doesn't look like it will be too difficult to make the changes, more just a case of someone having the time to do it. I'll try and have a go over the weekend - I'll have to spend some time making changes for it to work for me so I might as well do this instead. Jon.
  7. I installed the order editor mod without any problems. But its calculating the tax incorrectly (for me). I don't use sub totals and its calculating a seperate tax value and deducting it from the total. I've had a quick look at the code and I'm confident I'll be able to alter it to suit my needs. However, maybe I'm being stupid but wouldn't it make sense to calculate all of the order_totals values through the order_total class rather than hard coding it all? That way, it would work perfectly for everyone - provided it calculates everything correctly when the customer places the order. It should be possible to use the order_total class to generate the correct values and then just alter them. I wouldn't of thought this would be that difficult, though it would probably take me a while to make the changes. Is there a good reason why it wasn't coded in this way? Jon.
  8. I haven't tried the Order Editor for a long time, as the last time I did there was a nasty bug. When you had a single (or maybe double) quote in a product name it ended up trashing all of the product names in the database. Has this bug been fixed? I had a look through the release notes and couldn't see anything. Does anyone have a test system they could try it out on? Thanks, Jon.
  9. A couple of questions; There appears to be two contributions which allow product listings in columns: http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions,1712/ http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions,112 I can't see any major differences, or am I being stupid? Is one better than the other? I'd like the customer to be able to select whether the products are listed in rows or columns, like on this website: http://www.advancedmp3players.co.uk/shop/index.php Is there a contribution that does this or is it custom code? Jon.
  10. You need to edit the language file. I think it is the moneyorder module that you want to use, for which you would edit.... includes/languages/english/modules/payment/moneyorder.php Jon.
  11. Except that code will block any Maestro cards, which are issued by MasterCard. Whether this is a problem or not will depend on whether Maestro cards are issued in your country and whether you are allowed to accept them. If you are in the UK it would be a major issue - they account for about 10% of our sales. If MasterCard or Visa issue any cards that fail those checks, you will be rejecting them. I allow all valid credit card numbers through the validation. Sometimes people will pay by American Express which I can't accept, but the hastle from these orders is better than losing orders due to a valid card number being rejected. Jon.
  12. You can use the cheque / postal order payment module to do this. All you need to do is change the text entries for this module. Jon.
  13. We do pay fees for card transactions through our merchant account, but they are a lot lower than PayPal charges. The main problem is debit cards for which we pay a low flat fee (regardless of the value) whilst PayPal still charge a fixed %, on higher value sales PayPal works out very expensive in comparison. I was looking at the standard PayPal account which has no charges, but doesn't allow you to accept card payment. This is the account I want, but I wasn't sure if you can use this as a business and if its possible to integrate realtime PayPal payments into osC with this type of account. Jon.
  14. At present we only accept payments by credit / debit card, which we process through a merchant account. I've had some customers asking if we'll accept PayPal as they have money on their PayPal account which they want to spend. So I'd like to be start accepting PayPal payments. However, I don't want any card transactions going through PayPal due to the high charges compared to our merchant account. So is there anyway for me to accept non-card payments through PayPal, without incurring any charges? If so, what type of account do I need with PayPal and what are my options for integrating with osC? Any help would be greatly appreciated.... Jon.
  15. You can set it up so that a specific shipping option is only available to customers in certain countries, without the need for any additional mods. All you need to do is to create an additional geo zone (the same as you do for tax) and then apply it to the shipping module via the shipping zone option. PM me if you need any help with this. Jon.
  16. Great mod, worked a treat and I now have my feed live of Froogle. A few things.... 1) My feed was originally rejected by Froogle as it contained 'image not available' images. Apparently, if a product doesn't have a proper image the field should be left blank. Is it worth putting something in the code to handle this? 2) I fixed the VAT issue ok. I see its possible this might be addressed in the code. If so, could I suggest it be done by adding a 'target country' field. This would then be used by the code to get the correct VAT rates from the database and apply it correctly. This would enable the code to be used to generate feeds for different countries, and takes varying VAT rates in to account. I think that was it. Thanks again for the mod. Jon.
  17. That isn't the cause of it for me. Whilst I have a cheque / cash payment option, the order was coming through as a credit card - but with blank fields. Jon.
  18. Our config is exactly the same. If the problem has happened with a regular customer, it might be worth contacting them to see if anything different happened during checkout or if there were any problems. One tip....don't tell the customer the card details were lost. Tell them that the card failed authorisation and that you just want to confirm the details are correct. When they have given all the details say something like 'looks like the expiry date was wrong, so it should go through fine now....'. Works for me! Jon.
  19. I have had this happen as well, though only once. I never looked in to it as it didn't cause much of a problem, but I can at least confirm the problem as existing. Not sure what version you are running, but we are using MS2. Jon.
  20. I haven't used that mod but I do have individual product shipping prices. Not sure of the mod I used (though you should find it easily enough), but basically you put the shipping price in the weight field and then set a multiplier. If you set the multiplier to 1 the shipping price for each product will be the weight. If this is of interest and you can't find the mod, send a pm. Jon.
  21. I just installed Newsdesk and everything went fine. It didn't take too long either, and would of been even quicker if I didn't have a dodgy internet link at home! I've been looking for a better way to present news articles and it seems perfect for my needs, so a big thanks for the mod. I found the bug as well, so there must be a few of us who perform pointless actions. :D A few suggestions, all concerning the same page: - the category drop down box could do with some supporting text such as ' Please choose a news category to browse' - the search box next to it could do with some text as well such as 'enter keywords to seach all news articles' - the current category is not clearly displayed and the two boxes above would probably look better is they were placed under the page title - whilst there is an option to display the date (or not) an additional option for the time would be nice, for people who want to display the date only These are not demands, just suggestions. I'm aware of how much time you've put in to the mod, and that I could make the changes myself (if I had the time). Anyway, thanks again. Jon.

  23. Could anyone who has used this post some feedback on the results? I'm interested in whether the customers minded being contacted, and if they didn't, what kind of results you got. I'm a bit put off by trying this at it seems a bit like big brother watching over. Thanks, Jon.
  24. Have you tried working from the output? View the source code via your browser. Find the text from one of the cells that is being cut off. Work backwards through the code to find where the error is. Find that error in the php code. Looks like it could be one (or more) of the table / cell settings. Jon.
  25. Whats 'Ad Tracker'? Is there a reason why you can't just use the Affiliate mod? This is something I need to add to my site, so I'd be interested in more details on how you did it. We only use Google pay for clicks. Thanks, Jon.
