1. Hi again Bill, :blush:

I have been browsing this threads 262 pages, following links, checking out your Power Pack section, etc...

WOW is it overwhelming! :o

I appologize if this has been covered already somewhere, but was hoping you could give a few quick useful comments.

What is the best or easiest category menu to implement into STS?

I was originally looking at a few CSS ones. I'm not sure yet if I want a flyout menu or stick with a tree type. I was contemplating an expanded tree so all are constantly visable but I'd have to rethink my category structure first.

I stumbled across your post (4326) that makes it sound as though - different category (product listing) listings can be displayed differently. Is that true? If so AWESOME!

I noticed this - "Attributes Sorter Copier for STSv4 by dcross02 20 Aug 2007" at the Power Pack downloads page.

Sorry again if I'm repeating questions. :(

I've had a chance to clear my head a little and realized some of my questions didn't seem to make much sense. :blush:

The category menu I want would display the sub-categories by default and allow CSS formatting.

Something like this:

Category 1

__Sub 1

__Sub 2

Category 2

__Sub 1

____Sub-Sub 1

____Sub-Sub 2

__Sub 2

Category 3

__Sub 1

Any suggestions?

Are the contributions on the STS4 Power Pack page endorsed or verified to work with STS?

Can you identify exactly which contribution/version it is referring too? Is it possibly - "Attribute Sorter and Copier v.6.0.2 by notubes pete 29 Nov 2006"? Reason I ask, I've been searching for an attributes copy mod and found a few. But most were buggy and still being developed or didn't work (last I looked).

Sorry again if I'm repeating questions. :(

3. I'm hoping there is still some kind of support for this contribution. <_<

I'm running MS2 2.2 (see my signature), MySQL 5 & PHP5 with register globals off. I am also getting ready to use the STS contrib.

I downloaded version 1.6.3 and asume I'll also need the v1.6.4 update for RG off.

Will this contrib work for my installation?

Here's the biggy...

Can I have the infobox display in the right column, with (example) 3 products listed in one row?

If so, can anyone point me towards how I can do that without making a mess of things?

4. STS is compatible with all of the SEO add-ons available as long as they are coded per osCommerce standards.

There are several advantages to using STS for your site layout and theme.

Thank you so much Bill for your time and explaining things to me.

It sounds as though once over the hurdle of installation it will prove not only to be useful, but fun also.

I did not realize you could setup different themes and switch between them.

Gee, all I was originally contemplating was how to layout and design my store. Now I'm thinking - 4 seasons, holidays, etc...

I know, I know... FOCUS, one at a time (my wife's already yelling that in my ear). :lol:

5. Yes, Jack's HT SEO (Header Tags SEO v 3.1.5) is the one I was referring to.

Thank you Bill, that helped clear up a "lot". :)

I forgot to ask, probably one of the most important questions...

Will implementing STS have any effect on Chemo's - Ultimate SEO URLs v2.1d ORIGINAL updated and how Google now finds/see's my pages?

A real silly question...

It "seems" like a lot of work involved for designing a site layout.

Is it really worth it instead of playing with osC's current HTML tages (such as tables and cells) and stylesheet?

I guess the answer really depends on how extreme of a design change one wants to make, which at this point I'm not sure. :mellow:

Guess I better setup my XAMPP and local site again! :rolleyes:

6. Jim,

The only time STS will be an issue is if you decide to use the product info content template feature and even then it is not an issue as long as you know some PHP. If you do not plan to use the product info content template feature in STS, then STS will automatically pull in the data from those other contributions just by using the $content tag.

So does that mean, if I don't use the product info template you mentioned, I'll be stuck with the layout from the product_info.php?

Would I be able to redesign how the product info is displayed?

I don't know very much at all regarding PHP, just what I've picked up on making edits to osC. :blush:

Header Tags SEO is a totally different beast simply because STS has variables built in to pull in the tags used by that contribution. You should follow the instructions that Jack & I worked on together in order to have a seamless install between the two contributions. I highly recommend HTC SEO to be used with STS as I feel they totally compliment each other nicely.

Sorry, you just confussed me (easy to do lately)...

I'm using Jacks Header Tags SEO v 3.1.5 and noticed mention of certain edits for STS users. Is that the contribution you are referring too?

HTC SEO... Header Tags Controller SEO? I can't find that in the contributions, only Header Tags Controller which Jack replaced with Header Tags SEO back in April 2008. :huh:

Thanks Bill for helping explain things to me. ;)

7. I probably should have considered using STS from the beginning.

But now I want to work on the design of the site and before I take the plunge I figured I'd inquire.

I realize that I'm going to have to make some edits for my exsisting contribs; such as Header Tags SEO and maybe a couple of others.

Is it going to be too difficult or impossible to implement now that I've added so many contribs and edits?

Or will I be starting from scratch?

Contributions I can remember adding:

Actual Price in Pull down Option Menu v1.2.3a

Add Model Column to Admin Catalog Area

All Products SEO

Big Images Modification v1.25

Contact Us - Short Form with Captcha v1.2

Country-State Selector 1.4.1

Fancier Invoice & Packing slip v2.0

Google XML Sitemap SEO V 1.1

Header Tags SEO v3.0

Image Subdirectories 2.0

Login Page a la Amazon v1.4

More Category Boxes 1.0

PayPal IPN v2.3.3

Register Globals Easy

Sitemap SEO 1.4

Sort Product Attributes v1.2

Products Short Description v.2

Optional Related Products v4Show Sold out Items v1.1

Quick Stock Updater v3.5 & v3.7

U HTML Emails 2.1

Ultimate SEO URLs v2.1d ORIGINAL updated

Updated Spiders.txt

USPS Methods 3 w/insurance

** Version #'s may differ **

8. For additional pages, yes. For the ones already in the code, you may want the other boxes checked since they can load the categories and products.

Jack

Thank you so much Jack for setting me straight. ;)

Weather report for this weekend is clear and warm.

Gone Fishin' :lol:

9. It's not a matter of doing something wrong. You just didn't set it up, or that's what it sounds like, at least. Go to admin->Sitemap SEO->Settings Control and enter in the names of the section headings that you are going to use.

Jack

Oh my God I'm so retarded!

Thank you so much Jack for putting up with me and my ignorance lately. :blush:

settingscontrol.gif

DUH... :(

Me thinks it's time to go fishing.

10. When I went to the catalog side and loaded the Sitemap page I noticed there was no pageHeading.

I checked other files and noticed that line 192 of the sitemap.php file was different.

Sitemap.php:

<?php echo $settings['heading_title']; ?>

Product_info.php

<?php echo HEADING_TITLE; ?>

So I changed it to match product_info.php and the pageHeading now appears.

You made mention that I didn’t setup Sitemap SEO properly.

What have I screwed up now, any ideas?

11. I just want to make sure I'm good to go now. :mellow:

Since it is only happening on the sitemap page, the problem is most likely in page control. Go there, select the sitemap page and uncheck all boxes for it ecept for root. Make sure there is a sort order number for the root box. Enter text into the boxes for that page and update. Does it still fail?

Jack

Thanks so much Jack, no more warning message and the tags are filled in with the text I entered. ;)

I'll assume that will be the process for any other pages I add in the future?

Is it functioning properly now?

12. Just one problem remaining, might not be related, still no pageHeading on the page.

I tried changing this (line 192):

<?php echo $settings['heading_title']; ?>

To this:

<?php echo HEADING_TITLE; ?>

Now the pageHeading displays.

Did I just make another mess of things or is that alright? :huh:

13. Since it is only happening on the sitemap page, the problem is most likely in page control. Go there, select the sitemap page and uncheck all boxes for it ecept for root. Make sure there is a sort order number for the root box. Enter text into the boxes for that page and update. Does it still fail?

Jack

</tr>
</table></td>

I'll assume that will be the process for any other pages I add in the future?

14. Nasty bugger bit me in the butt again Jack! :angry:

In the includes/functions/header_tags.php file. Awhile back we where editing that file due to error messages, I had changed line 64.

From this:

$header_tags_array['desc'] = ltrim(tep_db_prepare_input(implode(' ' . HEADER_TAGS_SEPARATOR_DESCRIPTION . ' ', $sortOrder['description'])), ' ' . HEADER_TAGS_SEPARATOR_DESCRIPTION);

To this:

if (isset($sortOrder['desc'])) $header_tags_array['description'] = ltrim(tep_db_prepare_input(implode(' ' . HEADER_TAGS_SEPARATOR_DESCRIPTION . ' ', $sortOrder['desc'])), ' ' . HEADER_TAGS_SEPARATOR_DESCRIPTION);

Just found out why I edited line 64 -

Warning: implode() [function.implode]: Bad arguments. in /home3/handesho/public_html/includes/functions/header_tags.php on line 64

I had reverted back to the original code for line 64, which solved my problems of the META tag DESCRIPTION content not showing up.

I was playing around with setting up the sitemap in admin panel (Sitemap SEO v1.2).

Then I noticed on the catalog side, the pageHeading was not showing up and the title was missing "Sitemap" (see here).

So I went to Admin > Header Tags SEO > Page Control > Select A File > sitemap.php (yes I installed the header tags edits first) and then tried setting the Title, Description, Keyword(s).

I go back to the catalog and load the Sitemap page and that's when I noticed the warning message and still no pageHeading. :o

I really need help with this because I have no clue what's going on, why or how to fix it.

I'm super close to scrapping the whole ecommerce thing and just go fishing (bass are starting to bite and we can keep them come June 15th ;) ).

Even a super stripped down simple version would be fine at this point. :(

15. If the problem on the shop side is on all pages (categories, manufacturers and products) then the problem is in the includes/functions/header_tags.php file.

... keeping your version updated will make future updates easier.

Thank you Jack for pointing me in the right direction!!! :)

I found an editing problem in the includes/functions/header_tags.php file. Awhile back when we where editing that file due to error messages, I had changed line 64. :unsure:

From this:

$header_tags_array['desc'] = ltrim(tep_db_prepare_input(implode(' ' . HEADER_TAGS_SEPARATOR_DESCRIPTION . ' ', $sortOrder['description'])), ' ' . HEADER_TAGS_SEPARATOR_DESCRIPTION);

To this:

if (isset($sortOrder['desc'])) $header_tags_array['description'] = ltrim(tep_db_prepare_input(implode(' ' . HEADER_TAGS_SEPARATOR_DESCRIPTION . ' ', $sortOrder['desc'])), ' ' . HEADER_TAGS_SEPARATOR_DESCRIPTION);

:blush:

I just wasn't sure if something was wrong with v3.0.1.

You know the old saying - "If it ain't broke don't fix it." LOL :P

I appreciate your help again, big THANK YOU!!!

16. Sorry Jack but I need your assistance again. :blush:

After all the previous updating and editing from version 3.0.1 to 3.1.4 plus the extra little glitches, I can't fix this problem myself.

In Admin Panel I added all the meta tag info for such pages as - categories, manufacturers, and products.

In version 3.0.1 I had them all properly displaying on the catalog side.

Now no matter how I set things up in Admin Panel > Header Tags SEO I can't get the Description content to showup.

Catalog side example:

<head>

<title>:: Hande's Hobbies :: - Revell - Revell 1929 Ford Pickup 3in1</title>

<meta name="Description" content="" />

<meta name="Keywords" content="Revell - Revell, 1929, Ford, Pickup, RMX/85-2085, RMX-85-2085, RMX, 85-2085, 2085" />

Admin side example:

Product Title Tag: Revell 1929 Ford Pickup 3in1

Product Description Tag: Build a hardtop, convertible, or roadster style pickup - RMX/85-2085

Product Keywords Tag: Revell, 1929, Ford, Pickup, RMX/85-2085, RMX-85-2085, RMX, 85-2085, 2085

I have many times now...

• Uploaded includes/header_tags.php
• Ran - Add missing pages
• Ran - Fill only empty tags
• Restored my database and ran all the updates SQL queries

I am at the beginning stage again, above steps, and have not clicked/checked anything yet.

All I want is to have my prefilled page tags display as they did before.

<head>

<title>:: Hande's Hobbies :: - Revell 1929 Ford Pickup 3in1</title>

<meta name="Description" content="Build a hardtop, convertible, or roadster style pickup" />

<meta name="Keywords" content="Revell, 1929, Ford, Pickup, RMX/85-2085, RMX-85-2085, RMX, 85-2085, 2085" />

Any thoughts or ideas?

Also, this may be really stupid and too late...

But exactly what was wrong with version 3.0.1 which required me to make so many updates?

17.

:blink:

The webpage cannot be found HTTP 404

Most likely causes:

• There might be a typing error in the address.
• If you clicked on a link, it may be out of date.

What you can try:

• Retype the address.
• Go back to the previous page.
• Go to and look for the information you want.

More information

This error (HTTP 404 Not Found) means that Internet Explorer was able to connect to the website, but the page you wanted was not found. It's possible that the webpage is temporarily unavailable. Alternatively, the website might have changed or removed the webpage.

For more information about HTTP errors, see Help.

18. I'm sorry. The error isn't saying it can't find that file. It is saying it can't find the one it is trying to change to. That could be caused by your configure file. Try changing
define('DIR_FS_DOCUMENT_ROOT', $DOCUMENT_ROOT);

to

/home3/handesho/public_html/

Jack

Thank you, thank you, thank you! :D

You the man Jack!!! ;)

I appreciate your help as always.

Me thinks it's recovery time for me before I mess with anything else.

Percocets may take the pain away, but they sure mess up other things LOL. :wacko:

Hope you have a good weekend.

19. Could it have anything to do with my site being installed in the root and not catalog folder?

Maybe a setting in my configure.php files?

Admin:

define('HTTP_SERVER', 'http://handeshobbies.com'); // eg, http://localhost or - https://localhost should not be NULL for productive servers
define('HTTP_CATALOG_SERVER', 'http://handeshobbies.com');
define('HTTPS_CATALOG_SERVER', 'https://secure.bluehost.com/~handesho');
define('ENABLE_SSL_CATALOG', 'false'); // secure webserver for catalog module
define('DIR_FS_DOCUMENT_ROOT', $DOCUMENT_ROOT); // where your pages are located on the server. if $DOCUMENT_ROOT doesnt suit you, replace with your local path. (eg, /usr/local/apache/htdocs)
define('DIR_WS_ADMIN', '/admin/'); // Used to be /catalog/admin/
define('DIR_FS_ADMIN', DIR_FS_DOCUMENT_ROOT . DIR_WS_ADMIN);
define('DIR_WS_CATALOG', '/'); // Used to be /catalog/
define('DIR_FS_CATALOG', DIR_FS_DOCUMENT_ROOT . DIR_WS_CATALOG);
define('DIR_WS_IMAGES', 'images/');
define('DIR_WS_ICONS', DIR_WS_IMAGES . 'icons/');
define('DIR_WS_CATALOG_IMAGES', DIR_WS_CATALOG . 'images/');
define('DIR_WS_INCLUDES', 'includes/');
define('DIR_WS_BOXES', DIR_WS_INCLUDES . 'boxes/');
define('DIR_WS_FUNCTIONS', DIR_WS_INCLUDES . 'functions/');
define('DIR_WS_CLASSES', DIR_WS_INCLUDES . 'classes/');
define('DIR_WS_MODULES', DIR_WS_INCLUDES . 'modules/');
define('DIR_WS_LANGUAGES', DIR_WS_INCLUDES . 'languages/');
define('DIR_WS_CATALOG_LANGUAGES', DIR_WS_CATALOG . 'includes/languages/');
define('DIR_FS_CATALOG_LANGUAGES', DIR_FS_CATALOG . 'includes/languages/');
define('DIR_FS_CATALOG_IMAGES', DIR_FS_CATALOG . 'images/');
define('DIR_FS_CATALOG_MODULES', DIR_FS_CATALOG . 'includes/modules/');
define('DIR_FS_BACKUP', DIR_FS_ADMIN . 'backups/');

20. It's saying it can't find the file. Are you sure you uploaded the new files? Is there a sitemap.php file in the admin/includes/functions directory?

Jack

Yes, the file is there with permission of 644.

21. This may seem strange but maybe it will help figure out what I screwed up??

Now when I click on Admin > Catalog I receive this error message:

Error: Catalog images directory does not exist: /images/

It's there, so I don't know what's boogered besides me being on Percocets. :unsure:

22. Hi Jack,

It seems I messed something up on the installation. I tried searching for a similar error but didn't find anything. :blush:

As soon as I go to - Admin > Sitemap SEO I receive this error message:

Warning: chdir() [function.chdir]: No such file or directory (errno 2) in /home3/handesho/public_html/admin/includes/functions/sitemap.php on line 302

Line 302 = chdir ($path);

--EDIT--

Also when I clicked on Box Control I recieved this error:

Warning: chdir() [function.chdir]: No such file or directory (errno 2) in /home3/handesho/public_html/admin/includes/functions/sitemap.php on line 18

Warning: chdir() [function.chdir]: No such file or directory (errno 2) in /home3/handesho/public_html/admin/includes/functions/sitemap.php on line 185

Warning: chdir() [function.chdir]: No such file or directory (errno 2) in /home3/handesho/public_html/admin/includes/functions/sitemap.php on line 167

Lines reference = chdir ($locn);

Any idea what I did wrong?

:blink:
