  1. Tax Excempt Module for 2.3.4?

I've recently upgraded from a very old v1 oscommerce store to 2.3 and for all intensive purposes it is working. While challenging to get my modes migrated over, I'm left with one additional mod that I don't have and cannot seem to locate. I'm looking for a tax exemption module for v2.3 that I can install and have a customer enter their company name, tax exempt (yes/no), Tax Exempt ID (text) and the Organization Type (drop down - configurable by Admin only). What this code previous provided is a new Customer Type where I could create the type of Organization and a discount type (e.g. NC Correctional Institutions - Government) and another "default" as "None". Where the later is what everyone is set as a default. So, the customer can enter what they are (user or company) and if they are tax exempt or not. The admin can update the types to specify different type of companies getting the tax exemptions to comply with US Laws. The invoice and checkout processes need to also print the tax id and not have taxes included when they are exempt. I think that is it, but I'm sure I missed something. :-) Thanks, Steve

crap, now that explains the non-responses except for yours of course! :-) I'll check it out and re-post in the 2.3 forum just in case someone else has some great insight to install that module or another. Thanks! Steve

  4. Margin Report v2.10

Hi, I've downloaded the v3 version and after installing, my local taxes are not being added to my customer orders. I've looked at all the changes and I cannot see what it is that would cause it to not show during checkout or on the invoice. My taxes are based on the state of NC in the USA. If anyone has ideas, I'd love to hear them since I've had to back charge customers for taxes not taken out which is not good for business. Thanks! - Steve
  5. USPS Rate V4, Intl Rate V2 (official support thread)

Okay, I have a more pressing matter. Since installing the module, my tax module is not working for local orders. I had just received an order from my own state and the taxes should have been included in the invoice/order and it was not. I just confirmed in a test account that this is true for all locations in my state. I have tax module for North Carolina - USA installed. Anyone know why it would stop working?
  6. USPS Rate V4, Intl Rate V2 (official support thread)

Thank you for the details. I found the ideal place to include it in the catalog/checkout_shipping.php file. I searched for TABLE_HEADING_SHIPPING_METHOD; and found this section around line 254: <tr> <td class="main"><b><?php echo TABLE_HEADING_SHIPPING_METHOD; ?></b></td> </tr> and replaced it with: <tr> <td class="main"><b><?php echo TABLE_HEADING_SHIPPING_METHOD; ?></b><font color="brown"> <b>Note:</b> For USPS flat rate shipping selections, call first for details.</font></td> </tr> This added the message on the checkout screen just above the shipping options and to the right of "Shipping Method" label. Worked perfectly!! Thanks again, Steve
  7. USPS Rate V4, Intl Rate V2 (official support thread)

I looked at the page in question, but I couldn't determine where I could add a note/text in it to be visible on the checkout screen. Could you tell me which text to look for that I can add it into it? Thanks!
  8. USPS Rate V4, Intl Rate V2 (official support thread)

If we choose the later in the above to make the selections fewer and store determine shipping containers, I still would like a note field to add to the customer for situations like if a storm is interfering with shipping and there may be delays, we can state that in the shipping screens so the customer is aware of potential delays due to weather or other factors.
  9. USPS Rate V4, Intl Rate V2 (official support thread)

I think what is also missing from this module is a note to the customer about "flat rate" selections. The customer cannot really decide which package (envelope, small box, medium box or large box) as that would be up to the store to determine what the product fits in. So if a customer picks small box and the product doesn't fit, then what? There should be a note field as part of the shipping selections under the admin panel for the store to add notes which appear in BOLD RED , with a default description of - Shipper determines actual shipping method for flat rate containers, additional fees may be charged. The shipper then would need a way to either charge the customer the difference (negative or positive amounts). Cancelling the order and re-doing it just isn't a good way to handle a shipping container issue. If you look at other merchants, you select USPS, UPS, FedX and whether you want it next day, same day or standard delivery and then the shipper determines the best method based on the customers request and charges made to their account. I think this module could be simplified a lot, have less to check (in the admin screen) and leave the actual shipping container selections to the store.

I ran into the same problem Brett. You have to check the boxes next to each shipping option when you enable and add your USPS Shipper's ID. Otherwise, nothing shows up. There were no instructions that this was a required step so it is easily overlooked. :-)

I guess it helps to check the boxes next to the shipping services I want enabled. :-) Thanks!!
  12. USPS Rate V4, Intl Rate V2 (official support thread)

Yes, my production ID was received and added to the configuration. I'm just not seeing a shipping option (as a customer) for USPS, only UPS (which was the default previously).
  13. USPS Rate V4, Intl Rate V2 (official support thread)

I just installed the new version and when I go through the check out, all I see is UPS as an option. I've selected USPS as 1 and UPS as 2 in the order of services. My country and zip are already set, and the USPS is set to true (enabled). Any ideas? Thanks, Steve
  14. One thought I had was that I wish I could just have a field on the customer account that I could update and set a field for: ChargeShipping=No/Yes ChargeTax=Yes/No For those customers without these fields, shipping/tax calculates as normal. However, for those customer(s) with these fields, shipping is either displayed as usual or not (if No) and Pick Up is the default. For taxes (if NC in my case) they are applied or not based on buyers address, not pickup location. Currently, if I choose to have a Pick Up instead of shipping, taxes are not based on the buyers location, but on the shippers location. So if I'm delivering it myself, then the taxes should be based on where it is being delivered to in that case.
  15. Hi, I have a similar case where I have one customer who I want to offer free shipping to and deliver the products myself. The problem I am facing is two fold. First the customer is in another city and county in the same state and the tax rate is different for their county than mine, so I have to make sure their order includes the correct taxes, but I want the shipping cost to be zero. I looked at discount codes, but they are applied before shipping/taxes and that is incorrect. I tried to use the pickup rate module which is active on my site, but while the shipping charge is zero, the tax rate is incorrectly charged based on my location, not theirs. I think if I had an option to add another location, with the customers address and use it for pickup rate, I think that would do it, but I don't see any option to configure this. Can anyone help me on this? Thanks!! Steve
