    Official PayPal IPN Support Thread

Could anyone please tell me how I delete the 'Detailed Invoice' link in the customer's email in the new PayPal IPN Module v1.0 For 2.2MS2? In the old PayPal IPN I scored out the following at line 548: // EMAIL_TEXT_INVOICE_URL . ' ' . tep_href_link(FILENAME_ACCOUNT_HISTORY_INFO, 'order_id=' . $order_id, 'SSL', false) . "\n" .

Just tested it. Except for their email address, none of the customer's details are pre-populated. Is this normal?

Is the problem with pre-populating UK county field for customers without PayPal account a major one?

    New PayPal Payments Pro

Does anyone know if there are any plans to integrate OsCommerce with the new PayPal Payments Pro account? https://www.paypal.com/uk/cgi-bin/webscr?cm...compare-outside
  6. Just checked mine and it seems to be OK. NB: I have heard that PayPal are testing a new system which takes credit cards only and where PayPal will be invisible to customers. This will be good for the likes of you and me in that our customers won't have to mess about avoiding PayPal notices everywhere! However, because it combines credit card payments with a merchant account, we will probably have to pay for it. Further, there could be conflicts between the free merchant credit card service (however imperfect) which we enjoy now and the new one. In other words, those of us who use PayPal mainly for the free credit card facility, may be obliged to enroled in the new system.

    PayPal discounts problems

Would it be possible to know where this facility is to be found - it would be very useful?

    PayPal discounts problems

Having similarly searched and searched, I have found that is not possible to force PayPal to display different amount and order totals. At the moment I'm looking into the possibilty of getting someone to write a script which would send off emails even if a customer does not return to the shop. This way I can set the PayPal IPN to "Aggregate" and the shop emails should automatically arrive at the same time with an itemized invoice. Not entirely sure if this can be done yet, though!!

Well, yes and no: It is true that a customer is sent an email by PayPal as soon as she/he pays. The shop only sends an email if, and only if, they choose to return to the shop. In most cases PayPal customers will return to the shop because they are directed to do so by a large "Complete Order" button. However, for those many customers who choose to pay by credit card, the return to shop function is not clear and could easily be missed. Why? Because in their eagerness to sign up new customers, PayPal replace the large "Complete Order" button with an equally large "Sign up for PayPal" one. For credit card customers, the return to shop function is very small and down on the bottom left of the page. You may argue that the a customer has received an email notification from PayPal, so what's the problem? The answer, as many of us with discount modules will know, is that if the PayPal IPN module is set to "Aggregate" (which it has to be with discounts), the customer recieves an email from PayPal with just the total amount. This means that the shop has to send out an itemized invoice at some point in time after the customer had received his/her notification from PayPal. The latter is clearly not a very elegant solution to the problem. I am no PHPer but I feel that a script which checks if a person has returned to the shop or not would solve this problem.

Sorry, I should have added that I am asking in case someone forgets to return to the shop!!

Given that PayPal sends an IPN back to the store to show that payment has been received, could a script be written which would automatically send out confirmation emails from the store without having to to do it manually?
  12. Does anyone know if there is a way of setting up/modifying the PayPal module so that when it is set to 'item' it passes on the quantity discounts? I've tried a few discount contributions and they all revert to pre-discount prices when passed over to the PayPal payments page. (My version of the PayPal contribution is PayPal_ipn 1.30)

    PayPal discounts problems

Does anyone know if there is a way of setting up the PayPal module to 'item' and still passover quantity discounts? I've tried a few discount contributions and they all revert to pre-discount prices when passed over to the PayPal payments page. My purpose is to save an extra email being set from the OSC admin area because the items and discounted total would all be on one PayPal email. (It would also mean that my 'elderly non-PayPal customers wouldn't have to find the obscure return to shop feature to trigger emails from within OSC.) (My version of the PayPal contribution is PayPal_ipn 1.30)

    No Merchant account yet.

You can either use it as a stand-alone with your 'buy now buttons' (see http://www.rupertparker.com for example) or it can take the aggegate from your shopping cart. The latter may be a problem because, if someone buys more than one item, it still looks like they have bought just the one. I think that your customer may well have to enter their details again , also.

    No Merchant account yet.

Barclays do accept sole traders and really easy to set up: an in principal decision over the phone. Have you checked out their fees (?250 set up + ?20 a month). Don't know about getting a Merchant Account if you are overseas. I am going in the opposite direction: I have opened a Barclays Merchant Account and a Nationwide Business Account (free to members) and am using SecPay as my gateway (?50 sign-up +?10 a month). However I have just discovered that the NW account will not accept Direct Debits so Barclays can not take out any fees!! Rather that go through process of opening up another Business Account I have decided to downgrade to budget options because my site is not generating enough to warrent the large fees. Try looking at Paypal (it accepts credit cards for non-members) and it is free or 2checkout.com which charges around ?30 to set up and that's it. (I also think Fasthosts do one also?) Finally, think carefully about whether the 'pocket money' from your site could justify the fees. If I did the same over again I would have waited to see how much my site was earning before jumping. You can always upgrade later.
