    Upgrading to the latest version

It seems like every other question posted nowadays is about how to upgrade an older version of oscommerce and the op usually references the official version. This post is meant to provide a quick reference for how to convert an older shop to the current, recommended, one. First, the version that should be used is commonly called the Bootstrap, BS or Responsive version. It can be located here. One should not use the official version. The official version can be installed via the hosts control panel so it is easy to think that is the one to use - it is not. Since the BS version is not directly compatible with other versions, the following steps will be needed: Install the BS version into a new location Convert the database. See this thread for help with that. Install whatever addons the site needs. You need to be sure the addon will work with the BS version. This thread mentions specific ones but there are many others that will work. If in doubt, ask in the support thread for the addon in question. If you intend to use paypal, then install the Paypal App. At this point you should have a working shop. Test it thoroughly, especially the payment and shipping modules, before going live with it. When you are ready to go live, Mark your current shop as down for maintenance ( a simple index.html file is fine for this purpose ). Make a backup of the current shops database and files. Convert the database to the BS version. Replace all of the files with the new shops files. Edit the configure files so they work as the live shop. Remove the blocking page. If everything has gone correctly, the conversion should be complete.

Thanks Fredi. A new site and a new version is coming soon. The tool does require PHP allow exec as well as remote fopen. I will be making all of my add-ons available without the use of the toolbox as it was more of a proof of concept.

    How To Install SSL Correctly

@XplorMedia There are 3 areas that need to be set up correctly ... 1) Your website is XplorMedia.com. It is NOT www.XplorMedia.com. Note the www. prefix. You need to make sure that your SSL certificate and website name match. 2a) You need to make sure your .htaccess file redirects people to the correct name. In other words, if people type www.XplorMedia.com, your .htaccess file needs to redirect them to XplorMedia.com (without the www.). 2b) Your .htaccess file must then redirect people to your https:// site. 3) In osCommerce, there are two configuration files: <shop root>/includes/configure.php <shop root>/<your admin directory>/includes/configure.php BOTH of these need to be edited to reflect that you are using a SSL certificate. For example, <?php define('HTTP_SERVER', 'https://XplorMedia.com'); define('HTTPS_SERVER', 'https://XplorMedia.com'); define('ENABLE_SSL', true); Note that there is no www. in the URLs (since your site, and SSL certificate aren't using it), that the httpS is in BOTH URLs, and that ENABLE_SSL is set to true. Shipping Shipping Help Help

Correct. You have illustrated why osCommerce is on its knees; Businesses who appear as if by magic only when they need help/advice. I have just looked back through your posts and there is not a single one where you take the time to help anyone or give advice etc, but you are quite happy to have your business subsidised by other businesses here. If you don't give, you don't get. One hand washes the other etc. Classy. Go right ahead. Don't be surprised if that backfires on you.

    Easy Discount

Hey Jim, Check this one by @swguy https://apps.oscommerce.com/QdusL&quantity-discounts-for-osc-phoenix This one works perfectly in my store (version 1.0.6.0). It's an excellent add on. No core code changes required. There's also this one: https://apps.oscommerce.com/XpyA1&better-together-for-phoenix I haven't used that one recently, but it was working fine in later versions of Phoenix. Peter
