    Question for Ambassadors

    Good breakdown @raiwa thank you! So I think I will target Frozen BS3 (with BS4 compatibility option) and v2.3.4.1 with my addon. As a side note, I'm trying to work out why your name is familar to me. I'm going to scan one of my installs for your name and see if I owe you some credit lol. Couldn't find anything so probably just interacted on here at some point.

    Question for Ambassadors

    EDGE BS4 is still under development and continuous changing occur. You may publish an add-on for it and a few days, weeks, months later you have to update it to keep it compatible. Meanwhile FROZEN is frozen and your add-on will stay working with it. That's why I still didn't begin to update my FROZEN BS3 add-ons for latest EDGE and BS4. I prefer to wait for the next stable release. 😉 Most users/developers here recommend EDGE BS4 only for developers or shop owners with coding skills to be able to update FROZEN BS3 add-ons themself.

    Question for Ambassadors

    Good point official is still probably the largest user base for osC ( in my opinion ) as of 18 months ago I was still using 2.2a! 😊. However more and more people are slowly upgrading.

    Question for Ambassadors

    I agree with your logic, however I'm looking to make the addon I'm planning available to the greatest amount of users. Making it compatible with BS3 and 4 is no biggy really, it's just class names mostly with a few added bits of html markup for some element, ideally i want it it to be usable even for 2.3.4.1.

    Question for Ambassadors

    Very few add-on's available at BS4 also only just issued a few months ago so not many people using it.

    Question for Ambassadors

    So to give you some idea This is a CE Frozen BS3 test site. https://justfastfood.com/ This is a CE Frozen BS4 test site. https://chilleddisplays.co.uk This is a Clean CE Edge referance site as of end April. https://jcmagpie.com/ And just for completeness this is an official 2.3.4.1 refrence site https://jcmagpie.co.uk/

    Question for Ambassadors

    Fair enough, sorry to implicate lol. So why isn't that considered the default offering for new installs as it has BS4 and BS3 will eventually be deprecated? Or is it? lol If it is and not just something some people install some of the time, then it might be best if I code in compatibility options.

    Question for Ambassadors

    I would say it's best to look at BS4 edge as a base to develop on. BS3 is deprecated and far inferior to BS4, no point in developing anything using BS3 anymore.

    Question for Ambassadors

    😊 Yes that's about it. No nothing to do with me I just took a snapshot on first issue so I had a stable BS4 version. It's basicly BS3 Frozen updated to BS4. Edge is work is progress so not much point making add-on's as any update could cause them to stop working.

    Change the space between categories

    By all means do the below: But it comes with the caveat that it will affect all nav li a in the left column and as MrPhil linked to I would only do it for desktop devices or you may suffer an accessibility penalty from search engines. To target only desktop/large screen devices use below which is the above code but amended with a media query. @media (min-width: 992px) { #columnLeft .nav>li>a { position: relative; display: block; padding: 2px 15px; } }

    Question for Ambassadors

    @JcMagpie let me see if I've got this correct then.....lol Is release ready and the Frozen name possibly relates to the fact that no further development is going to be done to it? And is, if you like, the next one to move on to from stock v2.4.3.1 as offered from https://www.oscommerce.com/Products in terms of natural progession/evolution? Is that release ready but with the caveat that it's always being developed/worked on? Is CE Frozen (so release ready but with no further development) but you've swapped out BS3 with BS4?

    Question for Ambassadors

    @Hotclutch I agree it would be useful to have version numbering. If osC is to be taken seriously as a contender once again (which I hope it will one day) then it does need to start offering itself more professionally in that sense. The above is in no way meant to cast a shadow over those who are contributing as I think you all do a great job and make huge efforts but I think the bigger picture needs to be at the forefront of peoples minds. If it is then traction will be gained naturally and more people will come back or try out osC for the first time and the community will grow.

    Add this code to your user.css and play with the figures: #columnLeft .nav>li>a { position: relative; display: block; padding: 2px 15px; } I did not make it up, but I had the same problem when I still used the left nav panel. Someone added this for me... 🙂

    Question for Ambassadors

    I don't see why the CEs can't be given version numbers. Just take the latest BS4 edge and label it anything, so that people can have a frame of reference.

    Question for Ambassadors

    No simple answer to that question. You have The one that is probably most in use of the CE versions. CE BS3 Frozen here https://github.com/gburton/Responsive-osCommerce/archive/2341-Frozen.zip Then you have CE BS4 EDGE moving target, changes as progress is made https://github.com/gburton/Responsive-osCommerce I have a copy of CE BS4 Frozen at time of first issue which is Basicly Frozen CE with BS4 if that makes any sense. Can be got from test site https://chilleddisplays.co.uk/product_info.php/products_id/57 I personaly have been limiting my add-ons to Frozen BS3 and BS4 only as I don't have time to do anything else.

    Question for Ambassadors

    @JcMagpie and all, I'm thinking I may be productive this weekend and upload an addon/app. I usually use the stock v2.3.4.1 (available from here https://www.oscommerce.com/Products) in my day to day activities at work as a base (although our base of it has been heavily modified over the years and resembles little of the original codebase). For the addon I want it to be of use for the greatest amount of users but have longevity also. So with the above in mind, which of the versions of osC that are flying about at the moment would you recommend I base it upon? And would you mind linking me to where I can find it (whether that be on github or elsewhere) as the other issue I've found that is although people say "Use this version xyz" finding it is another matter. Thank you!

    Be careful if you're reducing margins or padding when displaying on a touch-screen device like a phone. There's deliberately extra space there so that people with fat fingers won't accidentally tap the wrong entry. Reduce it too much, and you'll get lots of complaints that your site is unusable.

    Modifying the create account page - Frozen BS

    Thanks, so I've taken a look and at the same time realised it's not possible to change the way the date is outputted or entered without making further changes to how the dates are saved. I should have realised sooner before when I initially replied about supplying the code but it's Friday and all I can think about is finishing work and starting the long weekend! lol Sorry! YYYY-MM-DD is native DateTime data type storage in MySQL, so the dates are saved like that. If you wanted to display them as DD-MM-YYYY you would need to change every page that saves a date so that it processes the date in DD-MM-YYYY and then reverses it before storing so it's saved as YYYY-MM-DD and then again on output it would need to be reversed back to DD-MM-YYYY. It's a lot of fiddling for a small thing and you'd need to make that customisation for every page that saves a date and then again if you ever update or install more mods. Generally it's only the shoppers you need to cater for in terms of localisation. If our clients ever ask about it we just say that's how it's stored in the database and can't be changed. Sorry I can't give you a simple solution on this occassion!

    Would you mind linking me to the addon/contribution so I can take a look at the code? It may not be honouring system wide time formatting, but I'll know more once I see it.

    Modifying the create account page - Frozen BS

    @peterbuzzin Hi not sure if I should ask this here or start a new topic Still can't get "Date Available:" in admin > edit product (not overly important) or " Expiry Date:" in admin > specials this would not be an issue but the add_on " Quick Update " pulls the date layout from specials according to the author BrockleyJohn. Below is my admin language file with change in red, also why is the setlocale line in the normal language look like @setlocale I have tried google but no explanation //setlocale(LC_ALL, array('en_US.UTF-8', 'en_US.UTF8', 'enu_usa')); setlocale(LC_ALL, array('en_AU.UTF-8', 'en_AU.UTF8', 'ena_au')); define('DATE_FORMAT_SHORT', '%d/%m/%Y'); // this is used for strftime() define('DATE_FORMAT_LONG', '%A %d %B, %Y'); // this is used for strftime() define('DATE_FORMAT', 'd/m/Y'); // this is used for date() define('PHP_DATE_TIME_FORMAT', 'd/m/Y H:i:s'); // this is used for date() define('DATE_TIME_FORMAT', DATE_FORMAT_SHORT . ' %H:%M:%S'); define('JQUERY_DATEPICKER_I18N_CODE', 'en-AU'); // leave empty for en_US; see http://jqueryui.com/demos/datepicker/#localization define('JQUERY_DATEPICKER_FORMAT', 'dd/mm/yy'); // see http://docs.jquery.com/UI/Datepicker/formatDate //// // Return date in raw format // $date should be in format mm/dd/yyyy // raw date is in format YYYYMMDD, or DDMMYYYY function tep_date_raw($date, $reverse = false) { if ($reverse) { return substr($date, 0, 2) . substr($date, 3, 2) . substr($date, 6, 4); } else { return substr($date, 6, 4) . substr($date, 3, 2) . substr($date, 0, 2); } }
