I have tested and found out that when the quantity of a product is entered above the quantity available in stock the continue to checkout button redirects back to shopping cart in second step.
But clicking on the paypal express checkout it allows to checkout anyway.
Any ideas how to fix this?

This might help.
If I suggest you edit any file(s) make a backup first - I'm not perfect and neither are you.
