I am having this same issue - but I don't quite understand your fix... can you explain further?
I have the same issue where the fields are showing in the data base. THey display correctly on the sign up form. When a new account is created the info is not retained and when you access the customer's account to edit the data the fields are blank and it's blank in the admin section as well. BUT if I write them in the admin panel they are retained.
Ok so on further investigation. If I input data into the text box on a previous page it displays it properly on the checkout_confirmation page with the link to edit it. If I don't input anything I get the display that is shown in the image up there ^^. So I need to tell it to not leave an editable text box if the shopper doesn't add any comments prior to the confirmation page.
How would I accomplish that?
never mind... it won't let me edit. But I had it correctly installed, I just had my shop located in the wrong country (US) so it would't talk to the Australia Post module.
Now I have an issue with my pricing being completely wrong. yay.
