how can i embolden the line which has the breadcrumbs in (i.e. Top » Catalog)

Unless you changed something from the default, it should already be bold. Otherwise check your settings for headerNavigation in the stylesheet. The default is

TD.headerNavigation {
  font-family: Verdana, Arial, sans-serif;
  font-size: 10px;
  background: #bbc3d3;
  color: #ffffff;
  font-weight : bold;
}
