Hi,
The only real difference I can see between 40 bit and 128 bit ssl from Verisign is the cost. Does anyone have any thoughts or knowledge on what the ecommerce user community accepts as "enough" encrytion????

In other words, if I have a 40 bit certificate, will it drive sales away from my site?

most likely it will drive sales away, 40 bit is easier to crack now than 128 bit is. take years for 128 to be cracked

John, thanks. Do you know of any documented cases where 40 has been cracked? and customers were affected by it?

you can search for info on the pros/cons of the 40/128, however you will not find any info on the customers, as that is what they consider 'priviledged' and how they will not say as they dont want others to do so. security focus is a good word to search
