we're trying to help a buddy set up a car website and would like to know if there is a contribution to just set up links and also setup a link for featured cars, basically click on it and the middle screen changes.

Lots of contributions in the downloads/contributions area - there is one for links. Right now with the cart you can do what you mentioned with featured cars
