Can I offer the members of my website their own store for a fee?? Is this allowed?? I would install and customize the store for them, then they are on their own to run it. I would charge a fee only because I do have to pay my webhost for the space. TIA

You certainly could charge them an additional hosting fee but you could not charge them for the store.

hi,

far as i can see the only problem is u selling the store,

there isnt a problem with giving them the store for free, then charging them a fee for you to set it up for them, the problem is if u sell them the store.

thanks

I think you can sell the store. Look at all the companies selling Linux. Maybe you're supposed to modify it a little first like RedHat does, but I think GPL mostly means the source must be available, not the software must be free.

Just to put my 0.02? in ;)

Yes you can sell osCommerce the GPL gives you that right as has been mentioned.

If you want to remove the osCommerce copyright for the catalog tool then you need to make significant changes to the look of the store as the design is copyrighted.

You cannot remove the copyright from the admin tool. See the following entry

http://www.oscommerce.com/community/faq,26/q,50

You can also not force any restrictions on what your customers do with the code, so for example you add a new wizzy feature which you provide to your customers they have the right to give that code away and/or charge a fee for it.
