Okay, I have tried very hard to hold my tongue. What is the point of going through all 150 pages of a now dead thread?

What do you want? My head? WHAT?

I'm sorry, we were tired and frustrated. We all had worked hard helping that girl. Haven't you ever used humor to blow off steam? You never had a laugh at the expense of someone else?

You certainly seem to delight in the nit picking things you are bringing up. Aren't you now doing the very thing that you are accusing us of?

I suppose that you are perfect and can walk on water.

How do I delete my account here?

That thread is going to be interpreted differently, either we let the issue go or continue going in circles.

At the time of writing it was a time to blow off steam, now if someone just reads it (randomly in the thread or through search results) they are not going to understand the language being used.

Either way, at the current moment or not, I think we can all agree it is best if such postings are no longer made.

And the foot has spoken

Good idea Harald.....I think people should really look to the main purpuse of this site....to help people out .....

Yes it can be fustrating for us who understand osc......but think if we changed into a totally different technology....where we had to start from scratch....I know I would appreciate some guidance to start with.....

When I started working with osc over a year ago, I knew nothing of how osc functioned, I bugged a few people I am sure, and recieved good answers.....

I too understand how difficult it is to try and offer free support, working away here and getting an icq message or PM or email asking for help....

I try to help these people out too...I am not a big poster here, rather I try to answer questions to help people out some....Just to give back a little of my time too....As for donations, what are those?

Never recieved one ever...I am sure there are people out there using my stuff too....
do I care? not really....was never a thought to me that I would make a living off of donations.....

Have I donated $$ no....but then I feel someone who is actually running the shps making money selling stuff should look to give something back....I do enough in my time and programming.....

I have yet to sell anything other then my service via the OSC project...and well I had to learn the whole project mostly on my own....

I am more for the idea of no lables given to people at all. The nature of what labeling is always lead to some type of problem regardless of the good intentions to start with...A label is a label and it always creates division....and well is this the purpose of this community?

And Kim....sorry to see you leave.....but if that comment from one person hurts so much, then think of the previous post where that person might have read it two or three weeks later and how he/she felt....

Did that person leave or just had feelings put down some what?

I believe a good community helps out people and does not strive to have fun at the expence of others....would you like to be ridiculed due to your lack of knowledge?

Nothing given for the attemp to better oneself?

anyways....Harard....use that foot more often and enforce the foot print left behind....and not let the wind blow it away.....

cheers,
Peter McGrath

I bet you could be more condescending if you tried really hard.

By the way, there's a mispelling on your www page, would you like to know where?

Burt, that wasn't sarcasm. If "Believers" was worded "Purple Elephants" then there'd be an issue with "Purple Elephants" and not "Believers".
Okey dokey :)

You can make the argument than any term will have detractors, but the term "believer" is a particularly odd choice.

I completely agree that it has cultish or religious overtones and frankly I didn't even understand it when I first came to this forum. I participate in a number of online forums and none of them use anything like "believer" in their ranking system.

And by definition it categorizes all others as "non-believers", which is equally as spooky.

So I completely disagree, I don't think "Purple Elephants" is even in the same ballpark as "believer". IMO "believer" is in the same ballpark as "apostle", "slave", "demagogue", "master", "servant", "blasphemer" or "heretic". None of which I personally think are appropriate to an online forum about osCommerce.

I've read a lot of replies in this thread, although not all, I'm also by your terms a newb here.

I felt even though I'm a newb I need to say a few things, yeah peoples attitudes stink and some are ment sarcastic, we all make comments, we think are fun and sarky, but not every one understands that, I've had problems on other forums, where I've made sarky posts, saying read the docs and search the forums, some one then pointed out my attitude stinks, I thought I was being funny, now I see they never agreed and how this can be totaly miss-interpreted, I know offer my help, then make a joke.

People just need to chill and make more effort with your so called newb's I had a major problem with OSC a few days ago, looked at the forum, saw you all, well some making fun or just being general idiots and offering no help, so I decided not to post for help and to sort it out myself, which I have.

This site offers something great, and there are some special members, but the navigation and layout lacks in some areas, I never even new there was a WIKKI until I hit the forum boards, and then still some newb's as you say, don't know what Wikki is and it's intention, so it's pointless just saying READ the WIKKI.

I hope this all makes sense, but I'm tired no sleep for two days, supporting 3 sites and the new one coming on OSC.

Just remember for those that care, just re-read what you type, think about it, will it offend, yeah it's a joke, but will that person or others take it that way. I can take jokes and sarky comments, I'm used to receiving it and giving it, but others are not. Some users maybe younger and just getting into PHP and MYSQL, our children are our future, help them and in return we help our selves.

on my final note now:

If you give more than you receive, you'll receive more than you give.

Good day all.
Kind Regards

Holy Moly!!!

That has just taken me 45 minutes to read all those replies on this thread.

I see it is getting under peoples skin.

I too find it iritating that people are sarcastic and rude sometimes, hell I am even one of the culprits.
I have been rude, obnoxious and sometimes insulting, but that aint REALLY me!
Long days, no sleep, too much working, trying to help people and not enough enjoyment in life at times, all takes it toll.
And unfortunately it means someone often receives the rough end of the pineapple when they post on here.

And you know what? IT SUCKS when people get crapped on like that.
And I apologise to those I have offended in the past.

I feel the best thing for the forums is to have less restrictive rules pinned at the top of a forum.
People read those rules and then ENFORCE first, answer questions later!

I know rules have to exist, but surely the Moderators should enforce this, and not everyday users like myself.

Other people really just need to chill a bit.
2 people come to mind recently that do nothing but look for each others posts so they can just bitch at each other. Wont mention names, but I am sure they know who they are.
Others just need to be more relaxed with their approach, put some life in their posts and replies, and make this a fun place to be.

People posting just need to not take the piss, dont just spam your URL everywhere, dont go over the top with advertising etc.

Well I have said enough, lets just see if people can relax their attitude a bit and not be so OFFENSIVE and DEFENSIVE.
This can be a great community again, I'm sure of it.

One thing I would like to see is more Mods, and to see them do their job with a level head. This way all the wannabe's can keep their nose out where it aint needed.

K, I'm done.

I actually disagree here. It isn't just the fact that the rank is "Believer". It is because it is the only rank.

Over at SitePointForums.com, they use the following titles: Member, Enthusiast, Zealot, Addict, Evangelist, Guru, Wizard. However, you will hardly see anyone use the titles of Zealot or higher because members can create their own titles after 200 posts.

However, as Harald said, they are looking at changing it here and looking for alternatives.

Could be serious and be something like newbie, member, sr. member, professional.

Could be nonsensical like: larvea, caterpiller, chrysalis, butterfly.

Could be coffee related: latte, mocha, cappucino, espresso.

Trade craft like: apprentice, jouneyman, adept, master.

Plantlike: seedling, sapling, shrub, tree

Any other ideas?

If Harald is dead set on giving labels then I think Member, Enthusiast, Zealot, Addict are pretty good, but when you say Guru and Wizard I think that gives the impression that the person would be an expert on the subject of osc which wouldn't always be the case. I'm not a coffee person so I would have no idea what the differences would be. The trade craft runs along the same lines, the title of master may give the wrong impression. The plantlike is kind of cool because it shows that the person went through a growing process with the project.

The coffee titles are in relative order of strength of the coffee by caffeine amounts.
