A small explanation on default.php and english.php

Hello...I'm a little new to OsCommerce, trying to figure out how the different files are used. I'm a little confused on '/catalog/default.php' and '/includes/languages/english.php'....what are the main purposes of each of these files? I know each has different info to edit...but I'm trying to figure out the broader view to ease customization...

Thanks for your time!

Default.php is one of the many main files in the catalog root that is the hub of the OSC software. In all the outer dir. Like /includes/,/includes/boxes, /includes/classes, /includes/functions, ect is the support files like the boxes, language files, function files, classes and ect.

All file under /includes/language/ files like english.php or under the dir /english/ or the other two languages are where all the text defines are. Now this is where it gets a little confusing.

If you look under /languages/english/, for example, you will find a list of files that have the same name as most of the files in cataloge root, including default.php. Now this is where part of the text defines for defualt.php are defined. The rest is defined in the english.php.

This is a tip how to find which language file to use. Look at the url in the browsers address bar. If it says http://www.yourdomain.com/default.php you look in either. /english.php or in /english/default.php. If it says: http://www.yourdomain.com/product_info.php go to /english/product_info.php.

I know I maybe getting a little simplistic, but I like to be thorough. :D

Well not variables they are the text constants. But, you have the Idea. The main page is part in english.php and most of it is in /english/default.php. I also forgot to mention, is the info box text defines is in the english.php also.
