rudolfl
Hi all, I currently use 2.3.3 and it is in desperate need of upgrade as current version is not responsive. I looked at this topic http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/topic/408979-upgrading-to-the-latest-version/ and got even more confused. It seem there are two 2.3.4 versions -- one main stream and one is BS, but it is not an "official" latest version. Am I right? Is the the only way to get "vanilla" oscommerce that is responsive? In order to upgrade to responsive I can see few options: 1. Get BS option and move all my changes in it 2. Buy a responsive theme (My previous experience with that -- I had to do lots of fixes and troubleshooting myself) 3. Go to a something like CreLoaded. The good thing about it -- some troublesome plugins are already installed (PWA, CCGV, PayPal) I am a developer, so can convert my database easily, as long as I stay with osCommerce clone. Any advice on what is the best way to get responsive oscommerce is greatly appreciated.T hanks, Rudolf
♥14steve14
As you are a developer, and could sort out any minor problems that arise, I would use the latest bootstrap EDGE version. It would give you the best chance of getting all the latest features and updates. There are many addons already coded that will work (some with small modifications) on that version. There is a link to the download page in my signature. REMEMBER BACKUP, BACKUP AND BACKUP
frankl
@@rudolfl EDGE is the way to go if you feel comfortable with fixing any minor problems that may pop up, although that's highly unlikely. 2.3.4 BS is the basis for the next official release of osCommerce and is stable and secure (and fully responsive of course!) osCommerce user since 2003! Dan Cole
I would go with EDGE too and closely follow the development of 2.4 -- the next step. Dan Need help? See this thread and provide the information requested. Is your version of osC up to date? You'll find the latest osC community version (CE Phoenix) here. greasemonkey
Is you use EDGE the PayPal app is included. Also @@raiwa and @@Tsimi developed a modular PWA that seems to work much better than the older 2.2 and 2.3 versions. As for CCGV... you are prob on your own (although I'm sure it's doable). Again there are new modular discount addons.... but nothing like CCGV (which I have up on years ago).
MrPhil
You definitely want to migrate to 2.3.4BS Edge. Plain old 2.3.4 hasn't been updated in years, and is obsolete (despite still being the official release). At a minimum, you will need to update your database schema (in a copy, of course) step by step through the 2.3.3.x releases, on to 2.3.4, and finally to 2.3.4BS. You will have a working, responsive, up to date (supporting at least PHP 5.6) store, which will be a simple upgrade to osC 2.4 (eventually). As for your customizations, I hope you kept track of what you installed, and why. You may find some of them already built in to Edge, and many add-ons have already been updated to work with this version. Custom work you did, and any add-ons that haven't been updated, will range from minor work to install to a major headache (especially if they're heavy into User Interface changes). You won't know for sure until you get in there. If it's mainly internal data, they're usually fairly straightforward to migrate. If they're mainly UI changes, be prepared for a lot of work. Whatever you do, check first that the add-on or custom work you want to migrate isn't already built in, or available in a newer add-on.
rudolfl
Thank you to all, My site is under source control, so have track of all changes. Just one more question -- where do I get the EDGE version and what is the difference between GOLD and EDGE? I found: https://github.com/gburton/Responsive-osCommerce/archive/master.zip https://github.com/gburton/osCommerce-234-bootstrap/archive/master.zip Thanks, Rudolf

rudolfl
Thank you, this is clear now. EDGE is a dev version. I think I am best to clone the base onto my dev server and then use it as my "base" with ability to commit my changes and get changes from official repository (and, hopefully, commit some of my changes back to community). greasemonkey
@@rudolfl you may want to consider committing your changes back to the "next" office release - 2.4 Joli - it's in beta now (not ready for production) and has been updated to 2.4.2. It is based on the EDGE community version @@burt and others worked so hard on.
MrPhil
EDGE may be "development", but it's well regarded as being quite stable. GOLD is a (now) fairly old snapshot of 2.3.4BS in its early days, and hasn't been kept updated. I really wish that Gary had periodically dropped a few more stable snapshots of EDGE along the way, so people wouldn't be so concerned about using an unstable branch. Do NOT wait for 2.4 to come out. Based on the past history of osC, it could literally be years before an official Gold release. Or it could come next month -- who knows. To this day, osC 2.2 never had an official Gold release -- it had two "milestones" and three "release candidates", but never a final 2.2! If you do come up with good new features, please consider contributing them to the community in 2.4, and/or even 2.3.4BS.
