It goes to show that all the years ago when oscommerce was conceived someone got the checkout process almost right. Apart from a standard guest checkout and showing shipping in the cart, oscommerce has it about right. (Before anyone complains there are paid and free addons available for this). All those that messed with one page checkouts and any other ideas some had, may have been better leaving well alone, unless I am mis reading the infographic.

I hate to say this but well done oscommerce.

@@14steve14 I agree, and also Login with Paypal and Paypal Express serves as a good way of allowing "Guest Checkout"

But wouldnt it be awesome if there was some form of recover cart sales function that automatically allocated a time sensitive discount code in its system (subject to the store admin allocating/authorising a discount - got to keep in profit)

I tried one page checkout with my previous oscommerce site and have mixed feelings. Had some issues with the ajax which sometimes didn't load properly.

Guest checkout is the way to go. More than 50% of orders are non-accounts. However, it's difficult for the guest customer to check order status.

I have two questions. Is the Recover Cart Sales mod effective? AND Does anyone know the features of Gary's new build trust addon in his Summer Blowout Bundle?

Those 2 ingredients are potentially very effective according to the infographic.

@@Mort-lemur A discount code to encourage customers who abandon carts to purchase within X amount of days would be awesome. The cart and the coupon would expire at the same time.

Yes - I use it and it generates sales from abandoned carts - and also encorages customers to reply stating why they abandoned their cart, which in some cases can be sorted out so the sale proceeds.

I too use the recover cart sales addon. Once you have the email that sends as you want it, it seems to work rather well. I find that the email will prompt many customers to let you know why they left the site, and you can make changes accordingly to improve things. Some will return and buy.

I also find that many customers use the site to compare prices and have no real intention of buying. Its those that need to be targeted somehow to increase sales and a coupon of some sort would help. That is until they realise that if they put stuff in their carts and forget them, they will get the coupon and then buy. Some wil abuse a simple system.

anyone know the features of Gary's new build trust addon in his Summer Blowout Bundle?

Yes. The Trust Addon consists of 4 modules;

1. "Happy Customers" - shows the number of Customers shopowner has serviced.

2. "Generic Box" - allows shopowner to add his/her own message/graphic (eg SSL icon or whatever)

3. "Completed Orders" - shows the number of orders shopowner has serviced, choosable by order_status

4. "Customer Map" - shows the approx location of the latest order on a Google Map.

All of which are HT Modules and have no core changes.

This could be coded without too much work I think but I wonder if that is needed. What about just creating a coupon with one time use/customer and include that code in the RCS email?  Wouldn't that do what you want?

MODULE_PAYMENT_PAYPAL_EC_TEXT_PROCESS_ERROR

I maintain a website that runs its store using osCommerce. The site was developed in 2007 and still uses the version of osCommerce that was then current. The site connects  to PayPal WPP and Express Checkout using the modules contained in osc at the time. In the past couple of months, for no apparent reason, Express Checkout no longer works. Every time a user tries to use Express Checkout osc returns a “MODULE_PAYMENT_PAYPAL_EC_TEXT_PROCESS_ERROR” message when the user tries to confirm the transaction. The sale is never consummated in osc.

PayPal support says, “the initial SetEC call is going through and the buyer is being redirected to PayPal. The problem is when the module is supposed to do the DoEC call to complete the payment. Either the module is erroring out or there is some sort of connection issue. It is never reaching PayPal, so PayPal has no record of the attempt or an error.”

My attempts to trace the transaction through osc have been futile. Where should I look to track down this problem? Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.
