I currently have an ebay store and have purchased my own domain name.  I am interested in purchasing an oscommerce template for my own domain name and want to know how easy it is to tailor it to my own needs.  I would like to know about integrated with Paypal and also about tracking of inventory.  Can anyone offer information?

How easy it is is relative to your experience as well as what your "own needs" are.  Some things, like changing the logo is just a matter of a few clicks while changing the color of a certain part of the shop can take a while to figure out. Paypal and inventory tracking are built-in. You will need a host in order to display the site so if you don't have one, that is the first step, unless you have a local setup. Once that is in place, you can install the package and play around with it. You should be able to tell after a few hours whether it is for you or not. It is also important to remember that the support on these forums far outshine that of other forums. So even if it seems difficult at times, you are probably more likely to find help here than if you went with a different shopping cart. At least, that has been my experience.

Keep in mind that osCommerce is not a "template". It is a complete website. As Jack said, you'll need a hosting account to actually run the store. Use a commercial professional host -- don't try to run it off your own PC beyond simply playing with it. If you want to keep your eBay store while you set up an osC store, I think there's an add-on for that (but I'm not familiar with it).

I agree with what the others have said. But I feel I must add the in its basic form oscommerce does lack features. These features are called addons and there is a special area where these are available. The chances are that if you want something, someone else will have wanted it also, so there will be something available.

I would start with the community bootstrap edition, so your site is responsive and will not be penalised by the search engines. Then add the features that you want load your products and away you go. Run along side your eBay store and push the site to all your eBay customers and then decide whether you want to close the eBay store.

If you feel that you cant do it yourself there are many developers here that will give paid help.
