broadstreetbully
I just installed v2.3.4 and I've been searching for hours on how to simply change the infobox header color, borders & the breadcrumb header color and all I keep seeing is "install themeroller"... that can't be the single solitary option to make simple color changes on oscommerce...for the love of god.... :( I not a noob to osc, I've used 2.2 for years but I just installed 2.3.4 for a new website and everything is easy so far except for changing the background colors & borders...nothing insanely major or anything that requires alot of editing. please please please someone point me in the direction of the link that explains this... I DL'd themeroller theme I made plus the theme-switcher addon but my template_top.php has been modified & I don't wanna break any addons I have installed...just so happens the 2 lines in the theme-switcher file need to go where an already-installed addon lines are at...so that's out. all I need is a link... broadstreetbully
even the infobox headers, borders colors and the breadcrumbs background colors? I don't know how I couldn't find that answer using google...all I found was "you have to use theme-roller/theme-switcher"...
MrPhil
They'll all be set in a CSS file somewhere (hopefully not in a style= attribute or a <style> tag). Look at the page HTML in your browser and see if there are any "landmarks" around, such as class name or ID. Even better, use a page debugger (e.g., Firebug for Firefox) to examine the element in question, and it will tell you all the CSS affecting that element, as well as what file it's defined in. Note that it's possible that a given CSS property might be used by several different things, and if you don't want to change the other things, you would then have to modify the PHP code to provide a unique class or ID just to change the elements you want to. "Use Themeroller" is the answer given to lazy and/or CSS-ignorant people who are unable to edit a CSS file. For some, it's the only way they will be able to change settings. It's not the only way, though.

multimixer
If you didn't change the structure of your header you can use #header+div .ui-widget-header{ color:#000; /* the text color THE ARROWS */ } This is part of a general set of rules that you can use (as per my post on the blog) /* START breadcrumb styling */ #header+div .ui-widget-header{ background:none;background:#f00; /* the background color */ border:5px solid #00ff00; /* the border around */ color:#000; /* the text color THE ARROWS */ font-weight:400; /* use a normal font weight */ } #header+div .ui-widget-header a{ color:#000; /* the text color of the links*/ } #header+div .infoBoxHeading{ font-size:14px; /* the font size */ padding:10px 2px; /* padding top/bottom and left/right*/ } /* END breadcrumb styling */ If you have any other structure the selectors won't work, you need then to wrap the breadcrumb area into a div with a specific class in includes/header.php My community profile | Template system for osCommerce - New: Responsive | Feedback channel
MrPhil
I ended up making a custom style sheet for the header colors & some other stuff...That's fine. There's a point to be made for putting your own changes into a separate file, so you don't have to re-edit a standard CSS file when it's upgraded. Of course, you still have to modify some PHP code somewhere to pull in your .css file. would anyone know what the little ">>" arrowns are called so I can change the color? They're probably & raquo; (right angle quotation marks, or right double guillemets). They're normal text and are probably in the PHP code to produce the breadcrumb. It's unlikely that they have their own class or ID, or CSS entry. Hopefully they're an HTML entity and not a hard-coded binary character, which would break things on any encoding change (or edit using the wrong editor setting).
