Guest
I want to set up a small online store for selling some local-made cosmetics. Now, I'm confused between osCommerce and Magento, for I don't know which one to choose. Please note that I only want the most basic features of ecommerce site, and what I sorely concern is the ease of use.
burt
Both are easy in different ways. Best option is to install both and have a play over the weekend, decide which one you like most.
dr_lucas
You do realize you came to the osCommerce forums, right? :) j/k Stock Magento is much more feature rich than stock osCommerce and Magento is currently the world's most popular open-source ecommerce platform, but if all you are looking for is just ease of use and basic features - any cart will do. If I were you I'd personally go with either open-cart or prestashop (or even zen-cart or loaded 7 which are based on versions of osCommerce) instead of osCommerce or Magento... Did I help you? MrPhil
As pointed out, this is the osCommerce discussion forum, so you will get replies that tend towards recommending osCommerce! That said, although I have not used Magento myself, from what I hear, anything beyond a small basic shop is going to start costing serious money compared to osCommerce. It really uses server resources (requiring you to buy a more powerful server) and most of the really professional quality upgrades (add-ons, in osCommerce terms) are not free. However, the basic installation is free, so you can play with it. Just be aware that going beyond a "sandbox" level could cost you quite a bit.
