MandyMarieB
Hi guys. Hoping you can help me out! I am trying to set up a website/store for my aunt's new business, and she chose GoDaddy as her host, which I unfortunately have little experience with. GoDaddy has OsCommerce as an application add-on, so I'm trying to set up the store using that. I downloaded this theme (templatemonster.com/free-oscommerce-2-3-1-template.html) and installed it using FTP... but once it's installed, you get errors for the admin page and the index page both, and cannot get into them without completely removing the files and OsCommerce application. Has anyone else had this issue, and know what I'm doing wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated! burt
What is the version of oscommerce that you have installed?
multimixer
I assume that you are trying to install this for "educational purposes" as per their conditions ? Your problems are probably because what you are trying to install is a complete store - not a template - that is based on a older osCommerce version You should get in touch with them for further advice and support, since this is a 3rd party commercial product, it can't be discussed on the forum If you decide to go with a a well supported and working solution, then check please the osCommerce partners for templates You can also learn to design your self, it is not that hard as it sound, here is a book that will help you You can also design your store without spending any money, you just need to invest some time and will to learn, you can always check the forum and ask your questions here, there are many people who will help you Quote My community profile | Template system for osCommerce - New: Responsive | Feedback channel
MandyMarieB
It's version 2.3.4. And that's not the only theme I've tried. I've tried quite a few, including some from the OS Add-On page, and they all have the same issue. I'm just trying to get something a little nicer than the default one. I'm not looking to make a new one or anything myself, as my aunt doesn't need anything THAT fancy, and she's not paying me for that. So the theme does need to be free. If anyone can point me in the direction of a decent free theme and show me how to install it properly, that would be fantastic. :)
MrPhil
Search this forum for references to GoDaddy. I seem to recall that they have a reputation for being difficult to install osC on -- hopefully you can find some references to useful information. Also be very careful about trying to use commercial templates -- they're often intended for obsolete osC versions, and you'd be far better off taking a vanilla 2.3.4 and using themeRoller or whatever to adjust it to your tastes. Finally, be wary of using "one button install" packages provided by hosting services. They're often modified in ways that you'll find undesirable, and/or backlevel (and they won't tell you about either case). It's best to get a clean installation from this site so you know what you're working with.
