What is the best innovation in ecommerce and how to develop this functionnalities.

Objective of this topic is to develop a reflection about ecommerce, functionnalities for customer oriented on innovation pratices.

What is interesting to develop and insert functionnalities inside an ecommerce shopping cart currently (innovation aspect) ?

What do see in the futur inside a ecommerce shoppint cart interesting to follow ?

What is the best pratices on big ecommerce website ?

==============================================================================

Theme 1 :

- Compulsive selling (buying /purchase?), Amazon with twitter has developping a new trend about that, Facebook are looking something like that. Do you know other pratices concerning this orientation.

Theme 2 : Live feed

Need a frequentation on the website but it could interesting to help the customer to discover new product.  The feed live count the number of added products or purchase  by other users to their favorites or purchased on the site in real-time. This feature has an addictive aspect, because we always want to go back for inspiration and know the most sought after by the community objects.

There two Theme interesting I think, but If you have ideas you can suggest on this topic and after the first proposition, propose a discussioncenterd on one theme.

Hi Burt,

Your examples are interesting. In summary I can say :

Compulsive selling (buying /purchase?) :

http://www.clubosc.com/youve-added-xyz-to-your-cart.html . On this it will be interesting to say at a new customer on the same product: "Hey, Someone insert a this product now" or  "Hey, Someone has bought  tis product there is x mn"

http://www.clubosc.com/who-just-ordered-oscommerce.html . Interesting also.

I like the (kinda) anonymous xyz has just bought abc, I don't think the avator solution is something for a regular shop. I personally would have privacy concerns if people could see what (high-tech) stuff I have been buying. But for some communities it could work, but it is a sensitive matter.

I personally like the bookdepository view, just places popping up, but realistically speaking, it wouldn't be that entertainig on our website. We don't have an order every 10 seconds or so, so you would have to be clever about it to have something dynamic but still realistic, at 4AM i don't think lots of people will 'just' have bought something ...

KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON

I do not use the responsive bootstrap version since i coded my responsive version earlier, but i have bought every 28d of code package to support burts effort and keep this forum alive (albeit more like on life support).

So if you are still here ? What are you waiting for ?!

Find the most frequent unique errors to fix:

grep "PHP" php_error_log.txt | sed "s/^.* PHP/PHP/g" |grep "line" |sort | uniq -c | sort -r > counterrors.txt

You can always give the illusion that your shop is full of shoppers at all times

That is exactly what I wouldn't want, if I detect such a thing on a site, I wouldn't buy there.

Oh I agree - Ive just seen this "tactic" incorporated or tired to be so,  in a variety of situations.

Here is some food for thought about ecommerce innovation

http://redeye.firstround.com/2010/03/change-is-coming-to-online-shoping.html

I try to follow some of this thinking about the future, but most innovation in retail that I see is about multi-channel / omni-channel store/POS integration combined with mobile.

This made me wonder who the real oscommerce store owners are.

Is there a way to create a poll and have a better view of the current userbase ?
