Hi there,

Been busy altering osCommerce (what a great product by the way!!) to build an e-commerce website for my girlfriend (the things you do for love, eh? ). It's almost finished, bar a few final additions and tweaks (we're getting proper photos taken of the products this weekend, so we are using temporary digi camera pics which aren't great) and we're going into testing mode.

I'd really appreciate any thoughts/comments/feedback you have, and if you notice any errors, or think things aren't as clear/easy to use as they should be I'd love to hear that too.

Very nice site, colors are super for the purpose of the site (wine)
One thing in my own point of view, the header image seems lost in a white background

Love the site! What "charming" idea.

The only complaint is the box header text is very tiny a is difficult to read at 1024x768 (even with my glasses on) Everything else looks super!

Thanks for the feeback Kim! Not too sure what I'm going to do with the header graphics just yet. The font is 7pt at the minute (it's the Mini 7 Condensed font), but I don't want to go too big, as it'll start to take away from the overall design of the site... Anyone else find the headers too hard to read?

Echoing previous comments really.

I love the "clean-ness" of the design .. something that is harder to achieve than most people realise - it's so easy to clutter a site up, much more difficult to tidy it up!

A very unsual product too - good luck!

I understand your concerns about the design and making the font much larger. It appears that the text you're using has a black outline, maybe you could just use a plain white against the wine colored background for a bit more contrast......

Another thing to think about is your target market....if they are over thirty....then the odds are that our eyes are going and having things that are hard to read will turn us off.......

Wow.. I really like that site. One of my favorite looking ones so far. I need to center my site bad, and I love the header appearance with the buttons and all.. such a nice and clean site. Damnit.. now I am so jealous! I need to stop looking at others sites so I can get my wifes up already. I keep seeing what others have done and keeping trying to use bits and pieces of ideas from others, at this point the site will never go up. :-)

I know what you mean Rasn. I do the same thing. There's always ONE more change and then it'll go up.... Interesting since I've had it installed since November!

Oh well... I've learned SO MUCH from this that, I don't know... actually going live is almost secondary. It's... it's fun...


Oh yeah, anyway, you're site is GREAT Phil. I can read the header image just fine and think it's a very good idea to keep it small.... That's my problem... my pics are nice, but at's just too much for 800x600...

(It does look nice at 1024x768 tho)

Someone gave me the tip to get rid of the shopping cart when there's nothing in cart, I don't know if you'd want to do the same...

just a simple if statement in the column right php...

extremely pleasing to the eye and elegant. great colors choice. i really like the round corners of the white frames you're using (and the black round corners of the images). the titles images (white fanky font) looks great as well.

prices font on the thumbnail images is tiny in 1600x1200 but also quite small in lower resolutions. can't think of a reasonable solution atm, but that's about the only thing that i could moan about

Oops, sorry about that Linda!! It was originally in the footer when I posted the site check, but I've been playing around with the footer and must have uploaded a version without it in!! I'll get that sorted this evening!

i just noticed. you don't use SSL.
i registered for your site, and in no stage you use SSL to protect the privacy of your users' data (i used phoenix browser, based on mozilla).

worldpay does indeed have a secure site, but the personal details such as name and address are transfered unprotected.

Hi,

Yes, as we use WorldPay to process all credit card transactions we felt we didn't have as much need for SSL as sensitive credit card transactions are held on the WorldPay servers, and no such data (except for customer names and addresses) is held on our server.

I've had a look at some of the other sites (not just osCommerce sites) that use WorldPay as their payment processor, and quite a few of them also do not have SSL in their sites. In fact, one of the most successful sites that I've seen using WorldPay is www.cd-wow.co.uk, which is a huge site in the UK. They've opted not to use SSL for customer accounts, and only use the SSL provided by WorldPay.

We're not sure what to do about it... but it's something we're thinking about.
