Can anyone explain why .exe files are not recommended for downloads and only .zip files are ok?

I bought Winzip Self-Extractor 4.0 and now it's semi redundant!

Thanks

@britchops

Personally, I wouldn't download a .exe file from ANY site as they would be deemed unsafe by most anti-virus software programs.

Most modern email clients will quarantine or delete an email with an .exe attachment. Also, those only work on windows machines. Junk the executables and go with plain ZIP files.

Thanks guys for the clarification. I'll stay with the ZIP files and add basic instructions to my customers on how to install to the file I want.

Actually, do you know if Winzip can install to a specific file without resorting to self extracting exe's?

Cheers all
