I am having trouble getting PayPal Advance to work properly in one my sites. I have determined that I need to reload the program. However, there are over 300 products already in the DB. How can I reload OSc and not lose the database?

If you're sure that you have corrupted files and need to reload, just overwrite all your files (except configure.php files) with fresh copies from the installation package. There is no need to do a full install, unless you think that your database is also corrupted (in which case, the backup may not be usable). Be aware you will need to reinstall any add-ons you've been using. You should be able to preserve your product images in the process.
Do I need to remind you now about doing a file and database backup before installing an add-on?
It is possible to do a database backup, wipe out your current store (uninstall it) but save the product images, and then do a complete fresh install (and add-on install). You would then examine the database backup to see about overwriting all or part of the database to restore your product . Note that this can be tricky if you are installing a different osC version than what was backed up -- you will likely have to edit the .sql (backup) file to bring its structure and data into conformance with the new version.
