Hello,

I really really hope someone could help me out here:

I have a webshop (http://bordspel.goed-kopen.be), after a long struggle I finally found out how i could put the META tags & discription in the source code (I just couldn't put it at the index.php page, but needed to do it at the index.html because i'm using a STS template),
But still now, we are just NOT LISTED in google. Even if you try to search for "bordspel.goed-kopen.be" you would only be redirected to some dutch forums, but not or own website!! I use SEO url's, have a tracker code for google installed, but all of this doesn't seems to work..

Please some help would be very appreciated!!

Thanks in advance!

Jonas

Hi Jonas

Your site returns a '500 Internal Server Error'
All pages have the same title and your admin is insecure.

What you should do is to add a metatag addon, and then add a google sitemap addon. Then use google webmaster tools and submit your sitemaps to google.

There is a lot of info on the web about search engines, rankings and much more, all you have to do is to search.

OSC has a steep learning curve, but in general the program does work.  If it doesnt work, the chances are it is something you have done.

Looks like a poor choice of a domain name... at least in the U.S.

It's generally a good idea to have the keyword you want people to find you in google be a part of your domain name.

____

Also, you need to add a bunch of text banners with the keyword in it as well. The more times your site says the keyword (in structured, nice looking text that makes sense) the better your page results will be.

if you're familiar with installing contributions, just do a search for some good seo contribs found on the oscommerce website. that will atleast take care of a small part of it by helping your site become more seo friendly.

the link that Erik posted will be of great help to you (infact I've not come accross it before so might have a browse myself).. but I will add -

while you're searching for information, you'll come across websites that promise to improve your rankings to top page for a big fee (this might spark some debate :) haha)... my advice is dont bother with them... they're not all that bad but most are.. they may indeed get you high pretty quick, but you can bet that the vast majority of those types of high promises companies are using black hat techniques -- loop holes in googles algorithms to exploit for fast results -- I assure you WHEN google finds out, you'll plumit back to the bottom and out of site -- it's not worth the risk... LEARN how to build on it properly and you will eventually be rewarded for your efforts.. seo should be seen as a forever ongoing campaign that you never stop building on, there's no massively quick fix that doesnt come with consiquencies so although you can better your possition quite easily with some clever tweeking, don't stress yourself out by expecting too much too fast.

That's plenty for you to think about.

Wow thanks everyone for your help!!
First I was just thinking that all of this could be caused due the STS template (the metatags on the catalog/index.php weren't showing, later i found out that I had to put them in the index.html of the STS template..)
But i'll try everything of your advice guys! I'll let you know!

PS: bordspel.goed-kopen.be is a webshop for boardgames, translated it would be like "boardgame.cheap-buy..." so I don't think it's such a bad URL or is it?

Thank you!!

I think the words 'Boardgame' and 'buy' are good words to use.. i'm not sure what it's like round your part of the world, but I dont know if many people will be typing 'cheap' into their searches when it comes to looking for a boardgame.. but ofcourse I could easily be mistaken, that's why we monitor our customers actions and searches.

Cheap always makes things sound of a lower quality. if your business is built around cheap products use it. Do a google search for cheap, and you will find it difficult to get near the top of the listings.
