Install headertage_seo. It will do more than you want, but should be installed anyway just for SEO purposes. The latest version adds category descriptions, product short descriptions, allows you to add keywords and tags. You may also want to add ultimate urls aswell, and the two work very well together. Both addond are updated and have full support of the coder.

I am not a coder, so dont bother sending PMs asking for help as you wont get any.
OSC has a steep learning curve, but in general the program does work. If it doesnt work, the chances are it is something you have done.

is this contribution ok to use for 2.3.2?
http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions,2343/page,18
it says for 2.3.1
but looking at the code, all it seems to be doing is adding an sql entry and editing a few files.
im pretty sure this is possible to use on 2.3.2 unless the code in 2.3.2 is majorly different?

Hi vampire,
Category Description v1.00 will not be compatible with Headertags seo so it is one or the other !!!
Headertags being a great contribution which gives you control over many aspects of SEO I would suggest just using the Headertags as mention above it will allow category description plus an extended product description.
If you install a good html editor ( http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions,7650) you will have initially all you need.
John
PS: looks to me that the website you mentioned above is using headertags seo

Hi,
Yes new tables will be added to the data base and the descriptions are are saved to the database.
There is an install.php and uninstall.php included in the package I would definitely recommend though that the data base is backed up first as there are quite a lot of changes made.
When you go to your categories in admin there will be a few extra fields including the category description

You have to manually enter the category descriptions and the headertags. There is an auto fill option for the product pagesw, but i would advise adding your own, as you know what you want in there.
Version 2.3.2 is the same as 2.3.1 but with only a couple of files that have been updated to the new password section of the site.
