Getting ready to move my stores over to 2.3.1. I saw very few thumbnailers in the add ons for the new osc. Does anyone have a personal reccomendation?

i've just written one for a customer actually, existing ones are very old and a bit "clunky".

If there's enough interest I may upload it as a new contrib.

Yep the old ones are really difficult to understand when it comes to editing their code.

A good image thumbnailer and also something to change the folder the images are saved too, would be most welcome. Images are the one thing that has always let oscommerce down.

OSC has a steep learning curve, but in general the program does work.  If it doesnt work, the chances are it is something you have done.

Where am I losing the chain of thought?

The only place a thumbnailer is needed is in product_info.php and bxgallery is already in there...isn't it?
Mind you I hate bxgallery enough to rip it out and replace with something else.

Anywhere and everywhere where an image is not the precise size as displayed. Images should not be sized using html.

E.g. All listings where a product image is displayed.

As i understand it bxgallery isnt a thumbnailer, its just a way of displaying images.

Hopefully in version 3 oscommerce will have a very good image handler system included, although i doubt it will, but i can live in hope.

I would be interested in an updated thumbnail add on for 2.3.1 but until recently i was using the old oscThumb add on with 2.3.1.   It took care of thumbing pretty much all images on my sites.  But I also noticed that the sites using oscThumb were generating a lot of errors when running the W3C markup validator.   So I disabled oscThumb, on one 2.3.1 site.   Page load speed slowed down a tad course.  Trading a bit slower page load vs removing a bunch of markup errors.
I am not a professional webmaster or PHP coder by background or training but I will try to help as best I can.
I remember what it was like when I first started with osC.  It can be overwhelming.
However, I strongly recommend considering hiring a professional for extensive site modifications, site cleaning, etc.
There are several good pros here on osCommerce.  Look around, you'll figure out who they are.

To be honest I have not looked closely at the bxgallery code, it does say on it's homepage that it creates thumbnails...

bxgallery resize the images but does not create thumbnails in the meaning of new image files in smaller dimensions

Thats why i have created two different sized images.

Ditto here, which is why I am guessing may page load speed didn't jump all that much with oscThumb disabled.  My self made small images are about 3-5 kb or so.

Ahhh OK.  That needs looking at and a different solution needed.

I've created an initial package of what will be KISS Image Thumbnailer.

Anyone ( ideally experienced ) fancy being a guinea pig?

@FWR Media Shoot me a PM if I can be a tester.  I've done quite a bit of modding on my site so I feel comfortable testing :)  Thanks!

Relatively experienced with mod installs....my 2.2 and 2.3.1 shops have oscThumb installed, working fairly well.   I'd be willing to uninstall oscthumb on a shop to test this out.  Thanks
