Hey There, thanks for looking! I always wondered, as manufacturers come and go, and products from those manufacturers are no longer available on a particular site, what should be done about manufacturers that are no longer wanted on the site? I have three issues:
1) These manufacturer pages have links pointing to them. I don't want to lose that link juice.
2) Also, these manufacturer pages bring in traffic. Even though I don't have that particular product, the potential customer may see something else since many of the manufacturers on my site sell related products or models.
3) I don't want to show those manufacturers on my site as there are no products for them. I don't want my customers wasting there time looking for non-existant products.
What is the best way to handle this situation from an SEO perspective? What is the best way to handle it from a customer's perspective?
Thanks so much!
Jason

Hi toyicebear! I just thought of something. What happens if i delete the product or manufacturer from the site after setting up the 301 redirect? The 301 redirect won't work will it? I really need to delete the products because I can't sell something I don't have.
Thanks so much!

If it is the case, your 301 redirect will direct your visitors to a 404 not found page. So after you delete your product/manufacturer, edit your redirect to point to a new product/manufacturer.
Hope it helps.
