Hi all, I have started a new post to raise the question above the noise, this question has been asked many times on the forum - but many go back years.
I have been holding out for ages running 2.2 Rc2 very successfully for a couple of years now - with many addons, but I am looking forward to move to V3.
The question is are we sure that it is safe to use now, or is there changes that need making - similar to earlier versions of oscommerce.

Also I currently use STS, has this now been superseded with template system and if so is there a help section.

Many thanks

Jimmy

This is a minor release that focuses on bug fixes, framework improvements, and introduction of new Applications.
as it stated, it's ready but the module are not all compatible with new version of oscommerce

8 people out of 10 don't bother to read installation manuals. I can recommend: if you can't read the installation manual, don't bother to install any contribution yourself.
Before installing contribution or editing/updating/deleting any files, do the full backup, it will save to you & everyone here on the forum time to fix your issues.
Any issues with oscommerce, I am here to help you.

As far as I am aware, v3.02 is NOT production ready.

Thanks chaps, I guess I will hold on to what I am using at the moment, for me it is a timing issue - do I move up to V2.3.1 now, and go through all the patching issues for security and reload all the mods or just wait until V3 is production ready.
Is there any real advantage to move to V2.3.1, other than I will have to do that anyway, to make the progression to V3?
If I use V2.3.1 as a stepping stone only, then I can ignore modding the shop.

Oscommece is great, I did look at joomla many years ago, but felt OS was better for me, and the help forums are smashing - so I can not be to picky!!

Apply patches related to security that are for 2.3.1

For oscommerce 3.x version still some time before it can be used for production site.

Also your osc present site can not be upgraded to osc 3.x as code architecture is diff. You will have to create a new store and then populate data from your old store.

Presently oscommerce application part in admin are missing for 3.x so if you can code that.

Also not many addons are there.

So unless you have experts around for oscommerce it sno t recommended.
