wizardsandwars
I was just wondering how you guys get rid of al of the fake email addresses for customers that have selected to subscribe. During our latest newsletter mailing, we have over 700 subscribed customers, however, over 100 of them had permanent failures, or could not be resolved. i'm just wondering if someone has thought of an easy way to either unsubscribe these customers, or remove them entirely. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: As of Oct 2006, I'm not as active in this forum as I used to be, but I still work with osC quite a bit. Guest
Chris, I am not sure if I would want to remove them, maybe just unsubscribe them from the newsletter. Otherwise, If you removed or changed the e-mail address the customer wouldn't be able to log on unless they knew what you changed it to. hth, Tony
wizardsandwars
yeha, I'd agree with you there. The main concern is how to unsubscribe them automatically. Obviously, going through and manually unsubscribing over 100 customers is quite tedious, and I coulnd't image how much more difficult it would be should Wizards and Wars become the next overnight sensation, ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: As of Oct 2006, I'm not as active in this forum as I used to be, but I still work with osC quite a bit. Guest
Maybe a bad user mod which you could import a list of text addresses and just do an sql update to unsubscribe them. To bad I am not a real programmer or maybe I could figure it out quicker. :D hth, Tony
wizardsandwars
Well, so far, the only way I know of to discover a bad email address is when I send out a newsletter, I get some of them back, with permenant errors, or 'address could not be resolved' errors. If I could compile a list of email addresses from these returned messages, then we could easily update the database and unsubscribe them. However, the problem is compiling the list of bad email addresses. The only way I can think of currently is to create a list of emails in your email directory, and then parse through each one word by word looking for certain keywords. When the keyword is found, we could grab the sending email from the text (as long as the sending email address is always in the same position of the email, which it is probably not) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: As of Oct 2006, I'm not as active in this forum as I used to be, but I still work with osC quite a bit.
