Hi. I know that this has been asked many times.
I have a store today in 2.2RC2a, i have worked with this site for a few years now.
I Know 2.2 very well.
Here comes my question.
I will start up a new store and i dont know if i will go for the old version 2.2RC2a, or the new version 2.3.1.
I know that 2.3.1 is higher secure, but 2.2 has so many more addons.
Is it hard do modify addons made for 2.2 to work with 2.3.1
I have checked addons for the new, and many i want already exsist.
One that dont exsist is "PDF customer invoice", but maybe it can be working with the new ver..
And i know STS not working.
I love to design my 2.2 stores with STS, but know i dont know if i easy can made a diffrent design to 2.3.1.
What do you think is best for me?
Big thanks!

I would suggest v2.3.1, even though modifying the layout is different from RC2a. You can easily use Theme Roller to modify v2.3.1. The PDF invoice contribution has already been updated in the support forum I believe, although there is no official updated contribution.

In your case I would stick with 2.2RC2a. If you are designing site for clients, then go with 2.3, but your own existing site that you like and are familiar with, I'd say stick with 2.2.
1. Any security updates that 2.3 offers you can install on 2.2 rather easily. Just pick out the 3or 4 (SEC) updates from here: http://www.oscommerce.info/confluence/display/OSCOM23/v2.2+to+v2.3.0.
2. The themeroller amounts to a nice coordinated way to change the colors and box and page headers on the same kinda of cheesy design.
3. In 2.3 you get some report graphs and nice ways to do some layout changes in the admin, but if you are running your own site and are familiar with OSCommerce you are probably going to prefer to making design changes in the CSS and catalog pages anyway.
4. 2.3 has divs instead of tables. You do gain a little speed advantage of divs over tables, and divs do reduce page size and put the content higher on the page, but there is at least one contribution that converts 2.2RC2a to divs without touching the database or admin.
5. If you love designing in STS, you don't need divs anyway, and you can't use STS in 2.3
6. There is no significant speed advantage in 2.3 over 2.2.

This will not be more easy when one say 2.3.1 and one 2.2..
I want all the things from 2.2, but i also want code thats is up-to-date..

If you look through the list of things to update 2.2 to 2.3 you'll see the basic programming hasn't changed that much. There are a lot of features added, such as the 960 grid, JQuery, a few admin features, about 4-5 security updates, but the php and database are pretty much the same.
You can use 2.2 and pick and choose which features from 2.3 you like to use, and then add them to your existing site.
