I have v 1.43 2003/06/29
All my payments go through paypal.
Sometimes orders are missing in our admin area on our website, but paypal sends an email that an order was paid for. Paypal does not include what the items were that were purchased - it just says how much they paid. Plus the orders do not sit on the shopping cart website - no record whatsoever.
Is this a problem with people not signing into paypal?
I need this to be corrected, I can't keep calling customers and asking, "what did you order?"
On the other hand, some orders are correct in our shopping cart and we get the proper email showing what was ordered and how much.
I just can't figure it out.

I had the same problem. I think the problem is that your customers are being led to Paypal and then need to come back to your site to finish the order. In order to rectify, I just added some text to my payment page on the shopping cart that states that they need to come back to the site to finish the order. Create an account on my site, throw something into the shopping cart, go to the payment part and see what happens. Here's my site; www.subcitizen.com.
Hope this helps,
Jason

Search through the add ons section for paypal. You will find a contribution there that allows oscommerce to store the order before a customer leaves for paypal. I personally do not use it, but others do. There is also another add on that allows you to pass the order details across to paypal. The order is then added to the customers paypal receipt, and your email that comes again from paypal when money is paid into your account.
You probably need to set up your paypal account correctly. Somewhere in your profile you can set a return url. Set this to your checkout_sucess page. Then you need to tell paypal, again in your profile somewhere, that you have set up a redirect after payment has been made.

REMEMBER BACKUP, BACKUP AND BACKUP
I am not a coder. OSC has a steep learning curve, but in general the program does work. If it doesnt work, the chances are it is something you have done.
