Hi there,
I'm no web developer, also new to the forum and I own an e-shop built on the os commerce platform. The e-shop is up and running for almost a year now. Since we are not happy with the company that has developed our site and is supporting us, we are thinking of replacing them. My question in this point is how about the site maintenance? What is actually required (manhours wise) per month, since I have received various offers from companies and freelancers quoting from 3 to 10 hours monthly- and costs that vary from €285 per year to €600/month! (they actually don't mention the hours needed just a cost) I'm a bit confused and I would like to know what is the real manhours needed (in terms of routin, periodic work) for general preventive maintenance, in order for the e-shop to run flawlessly
Thank you in advance for your help

Alex,

'Site Maintenance' is a broad term in that different developers offer different levels of 'maintenance'. Some offer 3 hours per month, this might include backing up the site and the database once a month and a quick overview to look for potential problems. Others offer 10 hrs a month, which might include weekly backups, site overview and potential security problems. Still, there are others that offer full maintenance plans, which might include all of the above and 'x' amount of coding or contribution installations or graphics creation.

So, as you can see, it is all relative to what you need.

It is hard to determine what others might value these services at but, I will tell you from my company schedule 3hours should be approx 150.00, 10 hours approx 500.00 and full maintenance is based on your needs so that would vary depending on your agreement with the developer.

HTH

Thanks for your reply and view on the subject.I guess it is indeed something quite general and broad and depends on the developer. That is why I'm asking
