osC2 is a great product but has little or no true support for the buyer who has to maintain the inventory. Why is that? I have not installed osC3 so maybe I am jumping the gun on this?

Our store offers thousands of products from hundreds of suppliers. Restocking is a nightmare with osC2 as there is nowhere to store supplier information with each product. As a buyer I would like to request the following functionality either be built into the core osC3 release or a decent module be created for it.

  • Add an are for storing supplier information for each individual product. One free text field would be sufficient so that supplier, price etc. can be stored with each product if desired.
  • A minimum stock/restock level be definable for each individual product.
  • Low stock check carried out during the sale process and an email generated for any low stock items in that sale. Email containing links to the relevant products.
2 - osC2 does have a minimum stock function but to a store like ours it is useless. Our broad range of products need to have individual restock levels settable.
3 - Having to run a report periodically (or use Easy Populate) is currently a pain as there is no minimum stock figure to work with. Viewing a list of thousands of products requires a lot of concentration and a good memory to work out if a product is at or below a restock level. I would love to see a low stock check carried out for each product at the point of order. If an order contains product that have reached a low stock level then an email is created containing either a link to the product or text with at least the product name and model.

It seems a shame that so much effort has gone into creating a great sales product yet neglects the basic requirements for maintaining the stock of a broad inventory.

Paul.

If you cannot code this yourself, then you need to find a developer who will code it for you. Or you might wait years for someone who can code to realise they need it for themself, and even then you have to hope that they would make it into an add-on.

So, if you have the cash, get it developed, make it into an add-on and sit back and bask in the glory of lots of shop-owners using your codebase, and sending you thank you messages every day

The whole point of making this post was in the hope that either core developers, or someone capable, might realise that the basic functionality of osC is missing back end management for restock. It seems odd to me that there is so much focus on the selling side but such a basic requirement is not well catered for.

Maybe I am missing something that others do to manage restock requirements?

osCommerce has been about for years .. it has thousands of addons.

If your request has as yet not been catered for then .. believe me .. it is not a fundamental need and is therefore a personal request .. these request types have been covered by the post of burt.

Makes a lot of sense for a store that carries stock and not just deliver through a drop shipper! Individual stock level monitoring, update stock level on import, product supplier details.

There's two of you that need it. Why not bang your heads together, find more people who want the same, all chip in a few dollars and get it coded up. Easy!
