Root Directory Setup without all the Files

Is there a way to setup Oscommerce in the root directory but without all the excess files? In other words, with friendly URLs enabled is there a way to place only the main index.php file in the root directory while keeping rest of the files in the /catalog/ directory?

Why would you want that? Just install the Ultimate SEO module and you will have your friendly SEO urls with all those files in the root folder.
