very interesting!
Very good point they make on the time factor as well...doesn't matter how 'pretty' your store is, if it takes years to get anywhere no one is going to stick around... Also I believe the three click rule helps...a consumer should be able to find what they want in 3 clicks...if they have to navigate through sub-cat after sub-cat to find anything (and you have a search function that is a waste of time) you will lose business very quickly

Hi sera,
what do you think about my navigation, I have sub-cat after subcat after subcat ... but you get to see product lists when you are 3 levels down and the top navigation tries to make the subcats visible at that level.
Personally, I think the performance is the biggest factor for the webshop. Though colorwise as a cooking store, we did go for tomato-red for accents in print and in the physical store.

Hi Carine,
Solely looking at what is immediately presented on your index page - the sub-cats can all be accessed so you have made them quickly accessible to potential clients. If you didn't have the drop-down menus then it would be much more of a factor (eg. click on the category...wait for the page to load...click on a sub-cat....wait for the page to load etc.) You are providing the necessary details efficiently so you're not slowing down a customer's experience.
Personally I favour vertical navigation but that is just my preference - I think if you didn't have the horizontal styling then your drop downs wouldnt executed as well...
If you want more feedback on your site and have the 'powered by oscommerce' line on there maybe submit it in the review section and get a few varying opinions?

I agree. The site has to not only look professional, but needs to be fast and navigable with ease.
